Bad Rep's for posting honest opinions

The_Hill

Never counted out
I think its pretty crappy that a new member gets blackballed because he voiced his opinion on a subject. I guess having more posts makes your opinion more valid then others, even though an opinion is just your personal feelings on the matter. Bad rep's should be reserved for people who give out false info, not for voicing their personal opinions. Sorry if I pissed anyone off, but this is a sure fire way to scare off new members to the site.

Chill out there Old Blue. This too will pass. I think the word ASS might be what caused the red rep. Next time you might give "Anal Cavity" a try.
Like my old friend "Richard Cranium" use to say, "A red rep is better than no rep at all"!
Peace, Purdman :)

Purdman...everytime I see one of your post...I get a warm fuzzy feeling....now, dont take it that i want to dip my body in hot vaseline and rub my body next to yours, I do not....I just like the way you bring some humor to the table....along with some good advice thrown in...keep it up!

you cant call a dude an a$$ in front of his mom. Even if you think he is one. Dont worry about it though, rep is pretty useless anyways. If they took ur vcash then youd have a right to be pissed :)

<------working my way up to a vmillionaire. (slowly though)

If his mom didn't hang out in the locker room, she wouldn't hear that kind of talk. :) If she hangs out in a pool hall now and then, she has probably heard a lot worse language than that. I have met Gabe, his dad Bob , and have talked with his mom. They is all good people. JMHO
Now where is that guy with the vasoline. I need to talk to him. :)
Peace, Purdman

The good thing about red rep is you can figure out who the people are on this forum who are seriously screwed up in the head. Consider any red rep received a blessing in disguise, it lets you know who to avoid at all costs because they are nuts.

yep

This reminds me of a time I was sitting at a casino card table with a bunch of people, including some guy and his lady friend......

This one guy who had been getting a lot of crappy cards and losing steadily, looked at his next hand which was another crappy one, started cussing about his rotten luck and kinda blaming the dealer, when the guy who had his lady friend sitting next to him, said, "HEY, watch your language, can't you see there's a LADY present????" The reaction from the guy who was "on tilt" was more cussing along with the statement, "Where the hell do you think you are? THIS IS A #*&%$##@# HOUSE OF SIN.....If you don't want to hear this kind of language, take her to church!!!!"

Since you're pro- honest opinion, here's mine. You should give more background when starting a thread like this. Why not give a link at least? That way people can understand what you're talking about.

OK, that said, it wasn't too hard to find the controversial post you were talking about. Turns out that you called a pro an ass. So, yes, you were in the wrong. That is not just "giving your opinion". You are violating the forum rules by making an ad-homonym attack.

I believe that Gabe does have an AZ account here, so not only are you attacking a pro, but also attacking a fellow AZ-member. We should make the pros that join our community feel welcomed here, not attacked. And further, his MOTHER has an account here and is an active poster, so you attacked him in front of his mom.

That, sir, is why people gave you bad rep, not for "just voicing your opinion". Now if you want to bypass the forum rules, that's your choice, and you'll probably get away with it once or twice, but you should be prepared to take the "bad rep" that comes with it. If the red rep bothers you, why not reflect on why someone might have done that? I didn't give you any bad rep, but I'm just explaining some of my thoughts on this.

Notice that I didn't call you any names either. You can express your opinion without resorting to actions that are against the rules of the community.

On the one hand, we can cut new members some slack so we don't scare them off as you suggested, but on the other hand, it's our responsibility to let new members know that it drags the board down when you post irresponsibly. These two philosophies can coexist.

Well said!!! I wouldn't have thought red rep necessary, personally, but if you post a controversial statement, you can expect feedback from the more experienced members.

Who cares what the internet thinks of you? It's a lot of anonymous people in anonymous places saying things they might not really say to a person face-to-face. Sometimes it's good, sometimes not so good. But take it for what it's worth: entertainment.

IMO, if someone is "scared off" that easily, they really don't get how internet forums work.

Bring back JIMBO!

Hey, just like me, you're entitled to your opinion, you can even call me an ass if you like, but don't go making up rules. A pro is no better a person then anyone else on this board. Freedom of speech, you can bad rep me, call me names whatever ya want, and if I think someones acting like an ass I can say that too. I'll take your suggestions to heart and think before I type again, but we all know what the rep's are their for, and its not to bust on people for their opinion. If any pro sport as more asses in it then pool let me know, its the nature of the beast. I don't see anyone talking about the great chat they had with Earl the other day down at the coffee shop.

Very well written.

All B.S. set a side, thanks for understanding. Being a newb I thought the rep stuff ment more then it really does. For all the other newbs that read this, wait till you have plenty of positive reps before you call a pro an ass, or as others will tell you, don't do it at all ;)

hmmmmm......

For somebody complainin about red you sure have a lot o green for a newbie.
But seriously, what ya got red for was calling somebody an "ass". You would probably have done better to just disagree with em and there would be no problem. We disagree with others all the time. But the name calling will get ya negative feedback.
The amount of posts that a person has does not mean they are a better person. It does however, show that they have gone a long time without breaking forum rules. That in itself is saying something about an individual. Green rep won't buy ya a cup of coffee, but if ya post on here for years as some have, you have there respect and others look forward to there opinion.
Of course this is JMHO. Take it for what lil rep and time I have invested.

o.k. so maybe you don't call someone an ass. but i would. chad johnson is an ass. terrlell owens is an ass. if i feel someone is acting like a jerk i have no problem letting them know, it's my right in this country. i don't care if they are a pro or not. gabe's staus doesn't protect him. what should have protected him was that the whole story didn't come out. when it did it was clear maybe his actions were justified and he didn't deserve to be called out and it's unfortunate he was called out before the story unfolded. but i think to say someone is protected from being called out on the carpet because they are a professional is nonsense. i've been called way worse on this forum and i haven't shot red rep to anyone. if this guy was gonna get flagged let gabe do it. that's who the comment was directed towards. anyone else who flagged the hill was flagging for his opinion. he didn't say anything about them or to them.
