that cue looks more like the original to me. the cuemaker...is he any good? I guess what I'm asking is "would you play with one?"

I've hit a few with those cues... but not long enough I guess. My impression is that they hit well. You can judge for yourself by going through the site.

You can also talk to Jack the owner. He's a friend also like many of the other cue makers here.

Anyway, Jack can tell you about his style. Seems good enough to be considered quality customs. ;)

nice touch!

for anyone interested I'm having this cue wrapped in leather this saturday by a cuemaker by the name of Jerry Rauenzahn in warren PA. he does excellent leather work and he is priced really fair also. I'll post a pic or two by sunday night.

new pics!!

here are some new pics of this cue with the new leather wrap done by Jerry Rauenzahn in warren PA. turned out very good. can hardly notice any seam. there is also a pic of the cue without a leather wrap. thanks for looking! :D :D

Just a few quick questions.. The ring above the wrap looks to be ivory (white) and ebony (black) but my experience says that normally on a maple window cue like the one that inspired your cue, the ring would normally have been maple / ebony. Do you remember the original ring? Looks nicer with the leather.. BTW I bet Jerry offered you 25k for it, right? Beings thats soooooooo close to the original, I bet he was fooled.. :)

I know what the original rings look like. it definitely looks better with leather. and Jerry offered me $50,000 for it.hahaha!! just kidding. Jerry liked the cue and has decided to make his own copy. what can I do...tell him no?? this guy can do awesome leather wraps, but alot of his cues are exact copies of other peoples work. he has his own style, but he showed me like 3 cues that were copies (exact) of Mottey, Balabushka, and Barry Szamboti. the Szamboti is on "cueaddicts.com" and is going to Illinois. as for the other two...who knows. so...I guess there are alot more people out there who think that copies are a form of flattery or a way of getting the "old" designs without paying $$$$$$. oh well...this may give jimbo something to complain about (we know he loooooooves to do that). go ahead jimbo! light up the screen with your "personality"

The next cue I buy I would like a Balabushka copy. I just like the look.

Jimbo needs to get a life.

Yeah he must need a life because he points out when someone is stealing.
Good point Wally.

Jim

I wonder??

am I the only person who wonders why jimbo has such conviction toward design theft? alot of people don't like it as I have seen and read here and elsewhere, and there are alot of people who don't care, but why jimbo? why do you not really join in on other conversations, but jump in head first on cue design theft issues? jimbo...do you even play pool or collect cues? do you even own a cue?

All -

I love the cue. Really looks like a nice job. Only thing I would change if it was mine would be the leather wrap. But that is only a preference thing.

Enjoy your cue.

Regards
ken

A few publicatons have evidenced both. As for "Design Theft", I personally feel violated when somebody duplicates a design or design component that I originate. A cue is such a limited area canvas that it takes a lot of time and effort to come up with an "original" design. I also feel for the eventual owner as I do hear their laments whenever they chance upon a copy of their "baby".

Cue copies

I Really Think This Whole Discussion About Cue Theft Design Is Way Over Blown. First Of All,everything That Has Ever Been Invented In The Us Has Been Copied By Those Little Guys From Asia And Nobody Is Crying Foul. If Someone See's A Nice Looking Cue And They Cant Afford To Pay A Famous Cuemake 5000 Bucks To Make A Similiar Cue Then What Wrong With A Cue Like It Being Made For Say 1000 Bucks .there's Only So Many Designs Of Cues Out There And The Last Time I Checked There Were No Patent's On Cue Designs. If I Was The Owner Of A Real Balbushka Worth 20-30000 Bucks I Wont Care If There Was A Cheap Knock Off Made Because It Will Never Be Worth The Real Thing And Thats What Matters Unless Its Being Passed Off As The Real Thing.personally I Find It A Compliment To The Great Ones When A Cue Maker Like Skip Weston Makes A Similiar Cue And He Does Make A Nice Cue.do We Need Royalties Like Rock Stars Now!you Guys Can Beat A Old Horse To Death, and Jimbo Happens To Be A Fine Dealer Trying To Make A Living Like The Rest Of Us. If A Cue Plays Great Then That Will Be The Judgement On Whether People Continue To Buy A Cue From A Cuemaker Who Happens To Make Classic Cues.

As far as I know Jimbo isn't a cue dealer. A collector yes, but thats only my opionion.

If you look at this subject like artwork (paintings, sculpture, etc) you will see artist’s interpretation of a piece of work. I mean how many different artists have redone Da Vinci's The Last Supper. Real artists will do an interpretation of the original piece and put there own stamp on making it unique. Others will try to copy it exactly and make that copy essentially worthless
