You travel 2543 miles to Las Vegas, Nevada (by bus with 18 stops and 8 bus changes) to play in the BCA National 8-Ball Tournament. You're 2 hours late. While you're filling out the registration form in a panic, you realize that you left your cue at home.

There's some strange dude by the booth with a cue case containing two cues. He says, "I heard you left your cues back in Alabama, you're more than welcome to use one of these".

Inside the case is an original George Balabushka (19.5oz, 13mm, ivory ferrules) and an awesome Blackcreek (19.5oz, 13mm, ivory ferrules).

Which one do you select as they call your first match?

Balabushka, of course... Talk about a natural high.

My game, such as it is, is probably 80% mental, in that I play much better when some sort of motivation is in effect. If holding a Balabushka wouldn't do it, nothing would.

i hope this is NOT a true story. if i travel all that way and realize when i get there i forgot my cue, going to a POOL TOURNAMENT i would just buy a bullet and rent a gun. if it isn't true and ya want an opinion, bushka is the only choice unless you already used the gun and are not thinking right. jmo, later

Use a house cue! The guy is going to want some of your tourny money for letting you use his cue. If forced, I would go for the Balabushka- good enough for Cruise, good enough for me.
 
Take the Bushka, sell it for $10K + and hit the casinos, screw them damned league tournaments, nothing but sandbaggers anyway
 
Technically Tom Cruise in the Color of Money had a Joss......But i have always admired the original Balabushka cues..never seen one in person..i have a replica Balabushka from Adam which is a great cue..but would love to own an original one ..maybe i'll win the lotto some day...Balabushka would be my choice..also i have recently been on a multi state bus trip and if your over 3 foot tall it is pure hell..no where to put your legs.Man it was hell.:(
 
I know I am going to get some bad remarks for this. I would have to take the blackcreek to play with.I have been lucky enough to hit balls with a real buska but I am not a fan of the way it played.I do have a blackcreek that I play with some times and I like the way it plays.I just feel I would be alot more confident playing with the blackcreek. Remeber the way you play has alot to do with how you feel with a cue. JMHO

You shouldn't get any bad marks you stated your opinion gracefully..i have heard that in the past that some people do not like the Bushkas...i sure would like to try one someday just to see for myself...everyone is different ..some like the Southwest some don't...my self my Hightower Custom is my Best cue that i will always keep......(thanks again Chris Hightower.:))
 
I've only used one of my Balabushka's in a tournament once. I even broke with it. I won the tournament.

40 years later, his cues still play great.

IF you don't mind me asking how many Bushkas do you have ? do they all play the same or do you notice slight differences?
 
I've had a few over the years. They all played similar. Shorter & usually heavier than what is popular today, but a real solid hit.

I'm pretty sure that most of his cues were around 57" to 58" although they tended to be slightly heavier (20oz to 21oz). The balls were heavier then, and since most people played 14.1 didn't need to move the cueball around as much.

If you ever get a Balabushka, you should get Pete Tascarella to make you a shaft and put the original shafts up for safe keeping.

I have to say I was sure I would get some flack for my post.I want to thak you for your kind words as I really was just JGMHO.
