Ball Bangers! wish they'd try to learn to shoot.

A wise woman once told me that to wish an opponent good luck is just cursing yourself. I think it's just superstition at this point, but I don't say it.

IMO, it's telling you that you will NEED luck to beat me. :D It's just what I am comfortable saying.

I get it, play with their mind. I won't need luck to beat you, LOL! (You gotta admit, you left yourself open to that one!) *poke*

Funny, I never say "good luck" either. I usually say "good shooting" or something similar...

Why would I want to wish my opponent good luck?

Wow, you guys have really thought about this a lot, huh? I'll say whatever people expect me to say. Then I'll win.

what about those guys that won't bet unless they have NO chance of losing?????? :p

hahahahaha...those guys sound so SMART! i made a fair game for you...30-100 straight pool...and hey...YOU get first break!!!!

This is just my opinion but what your opponent says or does just shouldn't matter. If you're that easily distracted by what happens away from the table you've just given you're opponent an advantage. If whatever they're doing affects the table you are playing at that moment call a foul or kick their ass!
Reading through this thread it seems to me several of the posters could quite easily be taken right out of their game.
As for Earl controlling his environment when he's at the table,I think your right about that.I've heard that he also likes to control "HIS OPPONENTS ENVIRONMENT" when they're at the table. :D

Before being critical consider that maybe the ball banger just doesn't know enough to perform to your expectations. Did we all shoot as well when we first started as we do today? Offer polite suggestions that will hopefull improve their game so that they don't get on your nerves. If that doesn't work - take their money and don't worry about it!!!! :D

i chose not to play for money w/ this person b/c one he's my friend and i know how that goes w/ friends/money...

for 2 we have discrepenses every time we play...i only have discrepenses W/ him and no one else i have ever played w/...if a call is questionable i always concede...but even on obvious things to me we see them differently and i know even though im winning it bothers me on the inside!

i have tried to reccommend things to him to help him get better...his answer is..."you play your game and i'll play mine." "your game is to run the balls my game is to make the ball that will win" (this is why i much prefer straight pool!)

when i start getting him beat he always says "ahh im gonna have to start smacking balls" and he DOES JUST THAT!

oh and one more thing...he says i get "lucky rolls" when i get shape on balls...so i started telling him what was going to happen and he gets mad and just says "play the game and shoot the ball." it's a no win situation...

we started playing the same time, same day and he plays a lot more than i do!

Or, how about this: A girl plays on the tour (and I won't share her name!) when she misses, she walks away from the table and looks at the shot and says (in a voice just loud enough that you can hear) "I still left her a tough shot, she's not out". EXCUSE ME?!?

Amanda :p

That one's easy. If it's a tough shot she's just stating the obvious. Your reply should be "It's a good job I can do them then".

If it's not really tough at all, and she's just trying to put you off, you absolutely have to say "X $$$ says I'll pot it". There is no way I would miss that pot. If she chickens out say "Come on, my cue against yours, it was a tough shot two seconds ago". That will shut her up, and you can always sell the cue on ebay.

it is only w/ ball bangers...if someone gets on the table and runs out on me they can talk all the crap they want...i play in silence...it may also be b/c we have known each other for so long and i want his game to come along as is mine...i dont want him to be a ball banger forever...he just doesnt seem to WANT to get good...

Sounds like your friend is more interested in the time you spend together rather than the game itself.Nothing wrong with that.If I'm just playing socially then I'll talk shit, get drunk, start fights...whatever(and bang balls). If I'm playing for pride or money then I play seriously(slow roll).Maybe your friend just isn't that interested in the game.

You know, it really sounds like your passion for pool is not matched by your friend. Trust me, that's pretty common. You're going to have to look to play others who have a similar level of interest and just understand that your friend is meant to be treated less seriously.

Well, a psychologist I'm not, however it sounds as if your friend is just shooting for fun and you are shooting to win. You are much more serious about your game than he is. Consider this, one time when you and he are playing say, "I'm gonna try your method" and just start bangin' 'em. After a couple or three games like this one of two things will happen. Either he will see how foolish this method is and try to change or, you will both be rollin' with laughter and really have a good time playing silly pool. If the first happens perhaps your friend will open up to accepting some advice and become more serious in his approach. If the second happens you must accept that he is not going/wanting to change. If that is the case I suggest you play with you friend only for fun and seek out more serious players when you want to get down to business. Honestly, I think it will be the second option.

I'm a ball banger, I smoke em. There are 6 big holes, the 9 might get lucky. Ride that 9 boys, that's the way to gamble at 9 ball. Before you all start a congo line to get at me, I'll be playing in the us open. You can get some there.

Let us know how you make out banging and smoking in the US OPEN!

im talking about those guys that just smack everything hard and hope it finds a pocket...

my favorite are the ones that actually act like it was intentional when it goes 6 rails into the side... :D

or...like the guy i was playing last night...if ever i fouled...no matter what the lay of the land was and how low a percentage shot the 9 was he was smacking away! hahaha it was too funny

and how about this? he shot at a pretty straight 7-9 combo...(i woulda just run out b/c it was easy w/ only 3 balls but anyway...) he misses the original pocket and makes an awesome one pocket bank shot cross corner and struts off and puts up his win...man i just laugh and laugh...

or even this...smack a shot...blow a easy out on an easy lay and leave you pinned on another ball and acting like that's what they meant to do...hahahaha "just what i wanted"

the only thing is...this is who i play w/ and he seems content w/ banging balls around...i want some real competition really trying to be good...i will be honest...at times i just cant get into playing games w/ him... :p

He probably could care less. In fact he may look at you and think, "What's the deal with this guys fanatical interest in pool", is he nuts, he needs to get a life?
