i see alot of different size 3 ball carom sets on ebay.

I have a current spec pool table ,is there a specific size?

My first purchase of this type set for practice purpose,so i would like to buy the correct size.

Thank you for your help.

61.5 mm. Do you need pocket plugs for your pool table?

It is not clear what you are asking.

The correct size for carom balls is set by the UMB www.umb.org as 61.5 mm. There is no other correct size for "official" 3-C even on smaller carom tables.

If you want to play 3-C on a pool table, you will want balls that more or less match the cushions. Those would be pool balls. Carom balls won't work right. One solution is to get a set of "Casino Eight Ball" balls. Those include seven solid yellows and 7 solid reds. Those plus a white cue ball and you're set for a long time.

Maybe someone offers a carom set at 2.25 inches or 57mm. That would be the correct size for pool cushions.

carom balls

Bob, from my experience and the feedback I get from ALL my customers the overwhelming conclusion is that playing with full size carom balls is the only way to go on a pool table with carom inserts. Yes, it is true that a ball could jump off the table if struck with extreme top english, however after playing for a short time one learns that a shot which requires top english is very controllable. When playing for an evening and after getting use to the full size balls a ball seldom jumps the table. In addition, using the full size carom balls seems to travel further with less effort and therefore enhances more of a 3-cushion reality. My carom pocket inserts are designed to replicate the carom billiard feel on a pool table, they do not somehow magically change a pool table into a world class carom table. The product is meant for the novice or new player so that they can be introduced to the carom games. It is in no way meant for the purest carom players. Since purchasing the inserts some of my customers have also purchased a full size carom table because they developed a love of the game and felt that they're new abilities require the next step. I personally have done the same thing and I am now playing on a Soren Sogaard and my Gold Crown at my residence.

Hi Dan,
Do the carom balls play shorter or longer than pool balls on a pool table? (Assuming equally clean/polished balls, of course.)

carom inserts on Gold Crown

Bob, It seems that the Gold Crown with inserts and full size carom balls and 860 simonis cloth plays slightly shorter, almost not discernible. A novice player would probably not notice the difference. When we play three cushion on the Gold Crown we usually play using Syn-surf on top of the felt, then the table plays slightly shorter and much faster, about 10% to 20% faster than simonis 300. The carom ball issue is not a strong factor because both rail heights of the Gold Crown and the Sogaard are exactly the same. {1-7/16"} The cushion profile is different.
