Ballbreakers on Gsn now

I'm trying soooooo hard to like this, but I just can't find a way to.

The two players sitting just best $500 against the shooting player on a one rail kick that would realistically have to be judged as about a 99.9% for any "C" player. Any "B" player would be a favorite to make the hit 50,000 times in a row.

Sure hope someone's having fun watching.

I managed to get through 10 min of the show last nght. It has to be one of the most boring shows I've ever seen.

Can we get a bet put on "VBookie" of how long the show will last!

I started to watch it for the 1st time. I knew after 2 minutes I wouldnt like it. I tried to be open minded and watch it as a GAME show, like its intended to be. I was unable to get into it, and turned it back to the Battle of the Bridges.

I dont think it will last too long.

I missed the show last week, but I caught it this time. If this is what it is going to be all the time, I don't think that I can watch it. It was awful.

Ball Breakers

Who said any pool on tv is better than no pool. In the case of ball breakers I'd make the exception. I tried to watch it for a couple of minutes but it was just too childish. I think Fatty's show was more entertaining than this. Just one players opinion. Each to their own. Hopefully one day someone will step up and get it right!

There hooking up the satalite today so hopefully I can get a view of what everyone is talking about. What days does it air??

Once again, this show is a horrible representation of pool players in general. The show is awful, one of the players (sorry if you're reading) was just so annoying I had a hard time keeping the volume control up.

I am not sure what they are trying to do with this show, defray others completely from ever thinking that pool was a serious game, or making a big mockery of the sport.

Now last night, I saw Ewa give away 4 brand new pool tables from Brunswick to celebrities that most likely have the funds to buy their own. This as far as I am concerned is another slap because getting Brunswick to donate to any events besides pro events is next to impossible.

I'll take that vbet at around 8 shows! What a waste of air time.

Thanks, Ewa and Brunswick, for kicking us while we're down lol

Eydie - I watched it for the first time last Monday and I have to say that I found it to be "watchable". However, this Monday degenerated into impossible boredom for me. That playboy bunny chic was just toooo annoying--her voice, her shooting, her constant "how cute these guys are"...ugh! I feel like it was the old bait & switch thing going. Like I said, surprisingly I found the first episode watchable, but this one didn't even deserve to be TV background noise while I'm at home.

I didn't mind the show giving the 3 remaining contestants $10,000 because it's going towards a good cause. The Brunswick tables, like you, I thought why? These guys have the funds to get 10 of them if they wanted!

Barbara "Bitchacuda" Lee from the first episode posted over on BD about her experience from last week.

Landshark - it comes on at 10 PM - 11 PM (EST) on Monday nights.

Through my cable (Charter), it looks like there is a replay Friday at 11:00 - 12:00. Check your local listings.

Its definately not something to wait for. If you happen to catch it next Monday, you can form your own opinions, but I thought it was down right horrible.

As bad as TSM replays were, this Ballbreakers is way worse.

Ok, I tried to watch the show last nite, and basically laughed from the get go, at how it was done up.

I mean give the same show, with regular pool players No A players, and the show would be interesting to watch.

thats my opinion

Didn't the same guy make Pool Hall Junkies?
What did everyone expect?

Where's the smiley that's gagging?

You know, this is a very interesting situation.
From a poolplayers perspective, this whole attempt to bring pool to the spotlight in this manner is a crock.
Why they chose to have a format like this, i have no idea, but it's obvious that they have no clue what they are doing. i don't dare watch it cause of the high possibility of me barfing my brains out. (i have a very sensitive cheesiness/barf ratio)

On a different note. I have to laugh cause the guy that won the event in Philadelphia, is from my room. Here is a guy who from a poolplayers perspective, is average at best. Maybe a C in open events. He was definitely not the favorite to win the tournament under normal circumstances AT ALL. but....as things would turn out, the other dominant players that one would think should have won, eliminated each other. Then when faced with playing one of them in the semi's, The guy from my room, ended up winning, and then snapped off the whole thing.

He got $500 for 1st, and gets to choose an $8000 table from a catalog they are sending him, and i think he gets to go to Vegas to continue.
Just goes to show you, that when someone sets up an "anything can happen" situation, it usually does.
I definitely have got to give him an A for effort.
If he was one of the people that decided to go try it out, he fully deserves his perks for winning, especially considering that he was definitely not the favorite.
As for the event itself, and all the people that thought they were stealing, i just have to shake my head and laugh.
Whoever was the brains behind this farce, needs to go jump off a cliff!

Anyone notice how the rack girl racks the balls in the perfect order/sequence
or how she slammed that 9ball down on the spot when it needed to be spotted, that really cracked me up :) Looked like she was trying to kill a bug.

This is the last episode I'm watching of ball breakers. If the show is just for entertainment purposes, I can find much better quaility of entertainment. I'd prefer watching paint dry actually :).

I was so tired that I couldn't stay up to watch it but I wanted to know if it was as bad as last week so I recorded it. I'm only 10 min into it and I'm already annoyed. I'm not really fond of celebrity anything (poker, softball, whatever) and I'm certainly not fond of celebrity pool. As someone said earlier... last week was at least somewhat watchable. They were able to show the whole game played last week. The celebrities are so bad that they're having to recap each game because they miss so much, the game takes forever.

I thought last week was watchable also. I also hate any show done with celebrities. I watched for about 5 min last night and shut it off. The watchable part about last week's show is that those last couple balls being shot, were really for 20k - so you wonder if this or that person really is going to make it, get there. When you see celebrities shoot these balls for a 20k payday for a charity, who cares!

I also hate to see celebrity poker, celebrities trying to ham it up for the cameras. When I watch poker on tv, it is to watch to see what move the pro is going to make, not just to see how a certain game unfolds or the luck factor in crapping out on the river. Now I am not sure if celebrity poker is entertaining to the general public who doesn't study hold em. Maybe it is. I think they like to see just that, the game without being a student with all the luck and money at stake.

I guess the point with this is so many of us are not entertained with what ballbreakers are trying to do because we study this game and love it, so we would rather watch professionals get out of situations we may not know. Would the general public find Ballbreakers entertaining? Maybe - only because they would possibly not be studying table layouts/situations like we do. Maybe they just want to see how a game unfolds with all the luck inherent at the lower level 9 ball, and all the money at stake.

Just my .02

I have seen them all so far...

Yes, I have seen all the episodes so far. I had no opinion before the first episode aired and I have TIVO, so I do get to see all of the billiards on TV. I will review this show as I see it and through the eyes of someone who watched a few episodes with me who knows very little about pool.

Maybe I am not the greatest player, but I do study the game. I have read and re-read most of the books and all the magazines, do drills almost everyday, take lessons, play with people who are many levels better than me, own and reviewed many accu-stat videos and take time to review games with the pros that have been recorded from the TIVO. I play all the games, not just the ones most people play. I travel all over the continental U.S. and play (my job allows me this privilege.

LIKES :)
I liked the fact that someone was going to have a show on TV. I liked that it's target audience was everyone and not just pool players. I liked the side betting feature, the idea of just average players playing for a nice chunk of change, and I liked the rules to keep things moving and make people think in different terms than what they are used too. I truly like the shotgun games and it kills me when they let someone else go first. Ugg!

There are times when some of the personalities get irritating. However, that is the same at any place we play and in any game show. I know that most of us play much better than these people on the show, but who cares. It is for entertainment. I felt like it was a slow start, but it seems much better now than the first couple of shows. I fell it is really good for pool, because of one simple fact. Since these are not professionals, it will encourage "new" people to think they can play at least that good. It will give them the idea that they can compete. I believe that this is a good thing for new players to feel. Most people who play pool in a social environment won't be playing the top 10% skilled players in the world everyday. The game needs to seem fun and slightly challenging, but still seem like the skills are attainable. Also the fact that people talk about it in the pool halls at times, makes me think it is good enough to be note worthy.

My friend got very excited watching the non-pros. They kept commenting on how this person really could use the money more than that person. They liked hating one player and cheering on another one. They did of course, make all the usual "oohs" and "ahhhs" that we see way before they happen. Sometimes you just want that part to go away, but we have to remember that what seems like old hat to us, is brand new to them. A close shot still makes some people go crazy with excitement. It's like the last shot of a basketball game to us when the score is tied. To the non-player, every nine-ball shot is like that to them. I had lots of fun watching it with my friend. BTW, after the third show, they did ask me where they can get a cue that would not cost too much to see if they like playing.

DISLIKES :(
I did not like the celebrity shows. They were really boring for all the same reasons that have already been discussed in here. My non-pool player viewer found the celebrity stuff just OK.

CONCLUSION
I think this show is just fine and it will encourage new players. Is it for the true pool player? Maybe not, but if it brings any kind of enjoyment and can get new players interested...IT IS ALL GOOD!

It is important as pool players that we keep in mind one true rule of thumb when thinking about pool. Most people find perfect pool, drills, technical jargon, and constant diligence in the game boring. That is why we are who we are. We see the underlying pictures, progress and value. It's important to try and remember what attracted you to the game in the first place. For many of us, it was the feeling of making a great shot and getting a chance to make 2 balls in a row.
