Ban the SourDough Rack.

What's worse than having the Sour Dough Rack in a pro pool tournament? Make the players rack their own racks.
So, player wins a game. He racks his own rack. He places the 2-ball at the very bottom. He makes the 4 and the 5 the wing balls.
Guess what? The guy on the chair gets buried early and cannot defend himself. I saw one player make the wing ball 7 times. And often, the 1-ball went to the side and 2-ball was around the corner.
Am I the only who dislikes this contraption? I know one-holers hate them.

This is one time I must agree Joseph.. I think sour douge rack belongs with spring loaded, triggered, laser sighted cues. I really miss the old 9 ball game. No ball in hand and shoot from behind the head string on a scratch. They haven't changed one hole and straight pool. Thats probably why they are my favorite games.
Don
They say they changed it for TV, what the hell is TV doing for the game of pool? Putting the woman in the limelight!!! I believe in equal time.

The two main things wrong with pool today is that rack and the men not being the prime stars on TV. Dont get me wrong, I like looking a lees tight fitting outfits like the next guy, but if you want to see great rack running 9 ball bring on the men, the ladies cannot produce this level of play. :D

Man you are crazy. Allison plays as good as any of the men out there. She is in the long side of her career and still plays smooth and sweet.

Here we go again comparing men and women. This leads to nowhere. However as I was watching Buddy Hall play last nite I was wondering if Alison had the size of Buddy would she be as much touted. God knows she doesnt even come close to having a beautiful sweet stroke as Buddy and Buddy I think would kill her in a long set with no sweat. Im a big man myself so no disrespect to Buddy who I love and admire. But to be honest with myself when I watch Alison play my mind often drifts to that butt of hers. Which she often jokes about. Thats so smooth so sweet. I often think this clouds up peoples critical eye. I know this is not PC but I aint going to feel guilty about it. "As good as any of the men out there"?? Come on what are you looking at?

As far as banning the Sour Dough Rack. I dont know of any alternative. Remember when Johnny Archer would take 20-30 minutes arguing about the rack.. Johnny would say stuff like "They're touching but they're not frozen". He would make his opponenet rack and re rack. The same with Strickland. Im so glad those days are over with.

Have some one else rack the balls. Problem solved. Two rerack limit. I would really like to know how the pros feel about it all.

in my opinion the only difference in the men and women is simply the power used in the break.....the women have as everybit a sweet stoke as the men.....and you know its a crying shame that they can act much more civil than the men......to bad don mackey was such a ass and caused the down fall of the mens pro-tour.....perfect example that greed will get you no where but out in the cold.......juston coleman

Please show me either a picture of the SD Rack or at least a URL.

I agree that the Sardo gives you the same rack over and over! But, if your going to use this rack the tournament MUST be ALTERNATE rack because of the reasons stated above. I realize that this won't make some people happy because you don't get to see rack after rack run....but if I'm in a tournament I don't want to losae the set on the LAG of all things. This being said...if we're both playing on the same table with the same eqiuipment my theory is to clear my mind of the external distractions and do my very best to kick ass. Good luck to all.

Not using a rack because it racks the balls the way the rules state they are supposed to be racked can't be the ultimate solution to the problem. I would be for changing to 10-ball and especially tightening up the pockets. The best players in the world shouldn't get rewarded for sloppy shots by generous equipment. I see that as a bigger problem than the rack. I'd like to see the pros have to have to worry about balls hanging up on them when they go for those table length back cuts up the rail. Most of the time they can be confident that the balls will wobble down if they hit the rail within half a diamond.

The problem with saying a neutral racker would solve the problem is the rules say that the balls are all to be frozen. As long as the rules say this, they should use whatever rack accomplishes it quickly and reliably.

Who would be for changing the rules to say "The balls should NOT be racked so that each ball is frozen to each adjacent ball?"

One thing you might not have considered here Walt is that when you purchase the Sardo you get with it a template, with which you have to make indentations in your cloth to assure the Tight Rack works properly. If these indentations are not made it is the equivalent of using a normal wood rack.

When these "Permanent" indentations are made any ball rolling slowly over the surface will tend to be effected.

This is just one of the points left, unsaid, by the promoters of this Sour Dough Rack.

True that Hemi. Tell those who have no clue.
The indentations when created, one holers call them craters, affect some of the rolls coming from the spot area.
And really, after these craters are made, there is no use for the Sour Dough. Any triangle wlll do. What was even a bigger scam was when the were selling the robo-rackers at the LA Epxo, they were selling the plastic ones while they were using the aluminum ones at the tournament.

One of the places I play at got one not too long after they came out. We used it for about 3 weeks. I think at best, it's a dust collector now.
