Nobody is beating down Shannon Daultons door to play banks. He took off the last DCC ring game in pretty sporty fashion. I know that ring banks is different from 1-on-1 banks, but Shannon can play that also.
For all time banker, there is no question. Eddie Taylor is the best hands down.
The banks pool championship tourney died when Eddie ran 38 full rack banks!
I was lucky enough to be around Eddie at Guys & Dolls in Suitland Md in the late 60's.
Only one person played him even banks. That was Rags Fitzpatrick , a local D.C. guy who died very young. I watched Eddie play Charlie Justice ( a very good banks player )
one handed to two short rack banks. Charlie was 1 game ahead when I walked in.
Eddie ran 3 and out, then broke and ran 5 & out, broke and ran 5 & out, broke and ran
3 and played safe.
Banks is a great game.
Pushout forever
Just for the record, Taylor's high run in Banks was 37. It was actually listed on all his posters (wish I still had one). That record may be more impressive than Mosconi's 526 and I seriously doubt it will ever be challenged. He did it playing Full Rack Banks. That's over two and half racks without missing! John "Rags" Fitzpatrick was considered the best all around player in the 1950's. He was near unbeatable according to the old timers I met in the 60's and early 70's. Unfortunately he died young at the age of 40 in 1960.
P.S. When I was working behind the counter at the Cue & Bridge in Dayton in 1964. they booked Taylor for an exhibition. He came in early that day to get the feel of the table, when there was hardly anyone there. I handed him a set of balls and watched him loosen up. The first thing he did was throw all the balls on the table and shoot some banks. He was quickly running 5, 6 and 7 at a time. On about his third or fourth rack, he ran all 15 banks! Never saw anything like it before or since.
