Bank Pool

Nobody is beating down Shannon Daultons door to play banks. He took off the last DCC ring game in pretty sporty fashion. I know that ring banks is different from 1-on-1 banks, but Shannon can play that also.
For all time banker, there is no question. Eddie Taylor is the best hands down.
The banks pool championship tourney died when Eddie ran 38 full rack banks!
I was lucky enough to be around Eddie at Guys & Dolls in Suitland Md in the late 60's.
Only one person played him even banks. That was Rags Fitzpatrick , a local D.C. guy who died very young. I watched Eddie play Charlie Justice ( a very good banks player )
one handed to two short rack banks. Charlie was 1 game ahead when I walked in.
Eddie ran 3 and out, then broke and ran 5 & out, broke and ran 5 & out, broke and ran
3 and played safe.
Banks is a great game.
Pushout forever

Just for the record, Taylor's high run in Banks was 37. It was actually listed on all his posters (wish I still had one). That record may be more impressive than Mosconi's 526 and I seriously doubt it will ever be challenged. He did it playing Full Rack Banks. That's over two and half racks without missing! John "Rags" Fitzpatrick was considered the best all around player in the 1950's. He was near unbeatable according to the old timers I met in the 60's and early 70's. Unfortunately he died young at the age of 40 in 1960.

P.S. When I was working behind the counter at the Cue & Bridge in Dayton in 1964. they booked Taylor for an exhibition. He came in early that day to get the feel of the table, when there was hardly anyone there. I handed him a set of balls and watched him loosen up. The first thing he did was throw all the balls on the table and shoot some banks. He was quickly running 5, 6 and 7 at a time. On about his third or fourth rack, he ran all 15 banks! Never saw anything like it before or since.

Sky made 20 banks in a row a few years ago in the Derby City action room banks ring game it was 2k entry race to 100 banks 10k winner take all.

As far as i know that is the highest banks run ever caught on video

It was Sky Woodward , Billy Thope , Richie Richeson , Danny Smith and Mike Delawder

Sky put on a banks show for the ages that day, highest run i ever saw by a long shot in banks and i used to run around with Tony Fargo back in the day.

It's a long way from 20 to 37!

I love watching short rack bank pool and was curios as to who other people think are the top 5 right now. Also how would you have them seeded?

1) Skyler Woodward
2) Billy Thorpe
3) John Brumback
4) Danny Smith
5) Justin Hall

If he didn't dog it, I would like to find a spot for Larry Nevel. Also if you're only allowed one railers Jason Shaw.

Tough question because I think the two best active players aren't so active (Brumback, Daulton)

And it's difficult where to put the Filipinos that seem to win the Bank event at the Derby (Alex, Dennis, Francisco).

Right now, my top 5 have 7 players:

Brumback
Shannon Daulton
Dennis Orcullo
Franicisco Bustamante
Alex Pagulayan
Skyler Woodward
Billy Thorpe

5 of the 7 aren't in tournament readiness for Banks until Derby. And in Shannon's case, he may not have hit a ball until he gets to Derby.

Shannon Murphy is also one of the best bankers I've seen. Dennis is good, but he wouldn't want to gamble at Banks with these guys imo.

I wonder if the powers that be could make this happen. Dennis would probably lose the first one, win the second one by a lot, and never get action on that game again. :)

Dennis tried playing Billy banks for the cash like 3 times that i know of and each time it was all Billy lol

It sure is, and i'm sure Eddie prolly did run 37 it would be great to go back in time with a video recorder and capture some of the great moments in pool.

I have been around pool for over 40 years and got to see some amazing players if they only had smart camera phones back in the day lol
