I have the Monk seriers on Kicking and Banking.
What are some of the other teahing Dvd's on learning the Diamond system, or how to determine tracks?
I find what I have works great on some, but not so great on others.

Especially on banking systems etc it is absolutley important to have a repeatable very good stroke-and a good feeling for speed! I highly recommend that if you wanna learn much about banking and diamond-systems to search for a good player who s able (and willing, lol) to explain you how to use the system. Reason is easy: You for several systems you need a different stroke-
In my opinion it s not enough to give a student a piece of paper with the numbers and the system how to use it (plus, minus and even more)- you have to work it out with the student for hours. Then, if he understood the system or different systems (i would never try to show someone more than 2 system at one time/session, he can work on it on his own. You can find so many systems in the internet- but how to use them is the key-and as i already written; it s extremly important that you re using the stroke you NEED for it-otherwise you will not have reproducable success on your shots and will be disappointed.
Perfect would even be, if you know a *very* good 3cushion player- there are 2-3 systems you could transfer even so to a pool table (just some things changing after last contact from 3rd cushion for example, depending which system :p). I made very good experiences discussing with Carambolage Players+Pro s. Pick out the best from everything you could get:)

Or just get lessons with a *really* good instructor- would be the best key, if he could help you if you perhaps still have problems with your stroke (and that might be the reason for a non-working diamond-system :p)

You might want to check in with Joe Tucker. Joe should be able to have you up and running in no time...SPF=randyg

Can you elaborate on what you mean when you say different strokes are needed? Are you talking about adding speed, english etc or are you talking about different mechanics like Pendulum vs. piston, elbow drop etc. I'm curious.

Thanks and Happy New Year.

dr9ball,

sorry for answering that late my friend :)
There are many systems which needin for example different types of english- and the speed is also extremly important.
For example on the diamondsystem from Ceulemans/Vingerhoedt (minus system ) needs a smooth long follow-through with max (2 tips and a tip high) english to work correctly. The plus system on the other side needs a bit shorter stroke with one tip english but center-
And i recommend always to train these systems with a guy who really knows these systems. Both systems usualy were created on carom billiards- so there are some differences because of different materials (bigger heavier balls, cushions etc).

lg, and don t hesitate to ask again if i forgot something- or just wasn t able to show what you wanted to know :)

Grady's "Only Kicks" video is excellent. I played a two rail z kick and made the ball from the foot spot on Scott Frost one night that shocked the hell out of him. I will never forget the look on his face. The only thing close is Efren's Z kick on Earl.

Dear dr9ball,

RandyG already gave me a *kick into my back* for a bad answer to your question-and he was 100 % right (like always, grmbl:grin-square:) i m very sorry dr9ball- i tried to transfer/translate from colloquial german into english ......and failed totally. I m very sorry for this *accident*. In the end i wanted to write this about the different kind of diamond-systems: That i recommend to train these system with a good instructor or a guy who knows the system perfectly- because many systems need a different speed or english if they should work perfectly. And without playin those systems with a smooth and repeatable stroke they can t work perfectly. Sorry for this silly try from my side dr9ball.

It's all good Ratta, That's what I thought you meant but wanted to seek clarification. Randy is good about showing us where we can improve our teaching isn't he :) SPF :)

I have an old video by Eddie Parker (RIP) that has a great explanation of the diamond system on two levels. Also have about every tape Grady ever made on kicks banks and safety play. I've learned a lot from those tapes about banking and kicking, but I learned more from Freddy Bentivegna's book "Banking with the Beard" than I did from all other sources, so far, be it book, tape, dvd, whatever.. Now, if you're looking for a dead solid scientific explanation for banks and why they do what they do, then this may not be your best source, but for pure banking knowledge and for diagrammed teaching of some great and outrageous bank shots, "Banking with the Beard" is the go to book for me.

BTW, Freddy and I only met one time at a tournament years ago. We aren't particularly friends, never communicated outside of this forum, so no interest here, as far as promoting Freddy, other than I have a great respect for his knowledge and skill as a bank pool player.

Haven't tried Joe Tuckers tutorial. Will have to check that out sometime.

Bob

Thanks

Thanks for the input!
I bought Banking With The Beard MOVIE Freddy Bentivegna - 2 DVDs
I hope I can get some improvement out of it!
