Gregg said:Not for nothing, and I don't know how to operate a game room, but most bar boxes I see tend to be coin op as opposed to paying table time on the commercial size tables. Don't know exactly how that translates, but I guess some people rather pay as they go, so to speak.
I disagree about the league comment.........bomber said:The trend is to increase revenue and I doubt that it has much to do with leagues. Many room owners will tell you that leauge play brings in little revenue to the business. Most rooms, in my opinion, are going to bar boxes in order to bring in the young crowd, twenty somethings that will run up a 50 dollar bar tab. When choosing a place to go hang out, play some pool, and drink some beers, people are going to want to play on bar tables versuses nine footers. Its all about the almight dollar.
For example:
Room 1 has a bar, food, 10 barboxes, 2 dart boards, and a jukebox.
Room 2 has a bar, food, 10 nine footers, a jukebox.
Room 3 has a bar, food 8 nine footers and 2 barboxes, a jukebox, and leauge play.
Room 4 has beer only, some food, 10 nine footers, no jukebox.
Room 1 more than likely outgrosses room 2,3, or 4.

1)alot of bar's around here need leagues to survive.
2)when our team goes out to have a few beers and food and practice we go to our home venue.I'm sure its the same with most teams.
3)whether it being a bar or pool hall,i'm sure #1 or #2 would apply.
I beg to differ, i have been in bussnies for 10 yr and have no beer or smoking and we do good bussines!!on leagues eather. have 11 bar and 1 -9ft in private room if you want to play for a coke !!! out of site of young people. GOOD FOOD BY MS STICK!!!!!jimmy-leggs said:I disagree about the league comment.........

I used to play in Teds league(players pool league).Would never do that again.I play in S.M.L.(southern music league).supergreenman said:I find it's pretty much the same around here too. I know the hall by my place bends over backwards to host teams.(and prefers the teams that play on the bigger tables over the bar boxes.)
BTW Jimmy leggs, are you playing in Ted Harms CCS league? Maybe sometime we should pack our teams up and meet half way in Red Deer and have a battle of Alberta some weekend.

I thought you were starting up a league in edmonton, hows that going?and do you play in walmac league?
That sounds like a great idea for the battle of alberta,$100 ahead,5 man team, race to 13,tournament play.![]()
Before I tear teds league apart,is your league ccs?supergreenman said:We did start the league, it's working out nicely so far. I also play in Wal mac (well I hope to get on a team since the team I was on last year disbanded at the end of the season)
I'm curious to find out why you don't like Ted league, he seems to be very organized.
As for the $100 a head battle of Alberta. Um, that's way beyond my range of wagers. Perhaps we could get a little more creative. Losing team has to host a BBQ for the winners or something? Serve up some humble pie so to speak in the form of Alberta Beef.
Johnnyt said:The trend with new poolrooms seems to be putting more bar boxes in than 9 footers. I guess they finally got it that there are way more bar box players that regulation table players. Johnnyt

What is the difference is sizes of these tables? I have seen a couple of post about oversized bar tables, but not real sure if I have seen one. I really never knew they existed, until recently.Snapshot9 said:Regular 3.5 x 7 footers in bars, and oversized 7 footers in Pool rooms.
I would agree with you. I'm in the planning stages of starting a business and if I could have my way, it would be all 9 footers (because that is what I grew up with and still rather play on), but like you said....it's all about the customers.Johnnyt said:The other thing is a very big percentage of poolroom owners were poolplayers from rooms on big tables. Most thoght bar boxes weren't real tables.HELLO...it's about the customers now. Johnnyt
