Bar Table Eight Ball

I remember SVB say in a TAR interview with him and Efren that his favorite game was bar table last pocket 8 ball. Efrin said he liked rotation.

The Dominican guy played DD race to 3 8b last pocket. He broke it like a 1p soft break to leave one huge clutter in the center.

I haven't seen much high level bar table 8 Ball - do they break differently than on bigger tables?

I remember Corey using the 2nd ball 8 Ball break for one pocket (on a 9-footer) because the balls tended to end up on one side of the table - does that happen on a bar box too?

To me CB control is the fun part of pool, so I enjoy lots of traffic. I only get to play on 9-footers, so I play lots of 15-ball rotation and one pocket to challenge my CB control. What other game(s) are good for that?

My favorite games for cueball control are in this order:
14.1
3 cushion
One pocket
Bar table 8 ball
Rotation games

Bar table 8 ball is great fun, trying to run as many as you can against the ghost with no bih.(somedays so enjoyable, somedays so many swear words)

Oh yeah 6pack his cueB got kicked right in on one break. Perfect break, squat, kicked in.

Patrick the 2nd ball on bar table does still cause all balls to go into 1/4 of the table if not done well. Usually from going too close to the rail I think.

With a template it works better, and a head ball break from the head rail 2-3 inches off center with a medium speed svb pop will often leave you golden if you make a ball, dead if you break dry. But I almost always make a ball with a template. Hand racked by opponents that always leave it loose I just 2nd ball break to get the corner ball.

Cool! I was planning to watch that match again so that gives me something to look out for.

Any time I hear Jay commentate....I get a little ping on my radar...
...just realized what it is..:idea2:
Jay, you sound like Allan McCarty, one of the founders of Predator.

Allen is the guy most responsible for creating the market for shafts only. He put Predator on the map and made himself rich in the process. He eventually sold his interest in Predator and retired to enjoy the rest of his life. I wonder where he is now and what he's doing. Great guy, I always liked Allen. I like success stories and his is a good one.

So ya im about everything billiards now

On board with it all, might not wanna watch pros on bat boxes, but its fun
The winner of tonights 8ball, i played first rnd
She went to hooking me good early after i ran 6

Tmrw im gonna play my first bar 9ball tournament
Just to hang out and meet some folks
Its all good

I agree that it can be more challenging than most people give it credit for. It is sometimes fun to see how the top pros get out of pickles. As a run of the mill amateur, I’m often amazed by how easy they make it look to break out clusters. As another poster stated, they tend to play much more aggressively than amateurs. Safeties are rare in pro level bar table 8 ball

Many Pros can control the cue ball within a few inches. Therefore, they can easily set up the cue ball for the perfect breakout angle, much more easily than an amateur. Breaking out balls is all about controlling the cue ball.

I watched Corey Deuel take down a tournament last week in bar box 8 ball. Beat Van Boening and Morra in the semis and finals. If he got a shot he was out.

There is a gambling match on Youtube that is Corey V. Shane - Must use 2nd ball break and take what you make (I think) - Winner breaks. Corey just runs and runs and runs. It's amazing. I watched it for 25 minutes before I even knew who he was playing. (except that Shane's name is on the video too :) )

I just went and found it but unfortunately it's blocked because of background music. :(

Here is the link just for reference: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XoqT4c7J1dQ

I don't have to see it to know how Corey was breaking because he did the same thing last week. Cue ball just off the rail at the headstring, hits the second ball and draws it with low outside cross table to around the second diamond and back into the rack. Both a break shot and a secondary break shot on the same shot. Apparently Shane agreed to play using Corey's break.

I've known a few good barbox players who break 8 ball that way. Guys who break with a slightly elevated cue and jump the cue ball 2 feet into the air look impressive but the don't get the same spread. Corey's break even with a slug rack gets some spread.
