hi all im looking to improve my8 ball game on bar box do u know any secrects that might help the process if u dont want to broad cast it just pm me
thx

Rock solid fundamentals, a silky smooth stroke, deadly aim, finite cue ball control, excellent safety play when needed, and proper pattern play. A little luck never hurt either.

But these are all secret so don't tell anyone else, ok? :D

9 ball for position, pattern play
14.1 for cluster development and tight shape (minimizing CB movement)

ALWAYS be prepared to change plans after EACH shot. Shots can develop which you wouldn't have tried for, but are friggin perfect.

bar box

get yourself a copy of The 8 Ball Bible. Very informative and a good read.

The 8-Ball Bible...

by R. Givens. Highly recommended. Written specifically for bar box 8-ball. Highly insightful and instructional.

"The Eight Ball Bible" by Givins" or Givens is the best book on 8-ball I've ever read. Everything you need to know is in there. The hard part is finding a copy for a good price. $69 on Amazon now for a used copy. Johnnyt

I think, for those that are transitioning from a 9-foot table to a barbox, you must have an open mind when it comes to position play. On 9-footers, distance is always an issue but with barboxes, that's rarely the case. You must always consider minimal cueball movement since you're going to have an increased traffic factor to handle and with that, you must make short-side considerations.

For $69 it better make you 3 balls better.

practice your break thats so important on traditional bar boxes

Also I'd recommend practicing breaking up clusters and learning how to "throw" balls in off of clusters and ball/rail/ball shots

Same as any other table, don't miss!

On a serious note, minimal cue ball travel, don't move balls that don't need to be moved, plan your pattern backwards from the 8-ball, and don't try to run every rack, if you don't have a high percentage runout, stop shooting your balls in and look to play safe (tie up his balls while breaking your problem balls out) ect.

I bought a copy during the BCA doings this year at Las Vegas. Price was $29.95 so maybe a bunch more have been printed?

Good book, well worth the cost if you gamble on 8 ball.

Mike ...If you are in Indy , I would suggest joining a team in either a.p.a. or valley ( or both ) ...also there are many 5.00 entry 8-ball tournaments ...claude and annie's is one place to start .....john wayne's at stop eleven and madison on the south side ......

70 bucks would be well worth a 3 ball improvement .....it cost me a lot more than that ......

I'd pay a lot more for 3 balls. But I wouldn't ever spend $70 on a book unless it was for school. $30 sounds a lot more reasonable.

If you have access to a 9 footer and someone who knows Straight Pool, learn it, if you don't already know how to play it. There is nothing better for improvement in 8 ball. As far as playing it on the bar box, the suggestions above are good ones. I can't comment on the book because 8 ball is not my game of choice. Doesn't mean I can't play it, though;)

Then I assume you do not own "Winning One Pocket" or "Shots, Moves, and Strategies"?

You can't even LOOK at those books for $70.00 nowadays. :D

You assume correctly. And I assure you that I will not spend $70 on either one of those books. I would spend $70 for both of them.

I have a better idea...

You should play me and it will cost you $5 per game but I will gladly tell you what you should have done after each of your turns and I will tell you what I am going to do before each of mine. How about it?
