bar table straight pool high run

Anyone have a clue about the unofficial bar table straight pool high run? You'd think it would be higher than the 9 or 10 foot record but a veteran world-class player friend thinks that the high run might be less because of having to deal with more congestion on the 7 footer. Thanks!

I'm pretty sure that I hold the world bar box 14.1 record with 55 from an effort a month or so ago. My 9 footer was being used as a laundry folding table and I was bored and waiting for my Friday evening activities to commence, so I racked a few up on the ole bar box. Since I'm pretty sure that no one has ever thought to try straight pool on a bar table before that, then that makes me the defacto record holder, right? ;)

Does anybody play straight pool on a bar box?

Obviously straight pool on the big track is ideal, but I play it on a bar table sometimes just screwing around if I'm playing by myself. Since patterns are similar, I think it helps my overall bar box 8 ball game. It's a very different game on the bar box, since way more non traditional break shots are available. The congestion also poses some challenges and allows for more dead balls, caroms, billiards, and combos. All in all, IMO it's a little easier to run balls on a 7' diamond than a 9' diamond, simply because of the shorter distances for the bulk of shots. There was a podcast a while back with Schmidt and he thinks 8' tables are the easiest for straight pool, followed by bar boxes, and then 9 footers. With the 8' table, he says congestion isn't really an issue and obviously length isn't either compared to the 9 footer. With the 7 footer, balls are missed less, but it's much easier to get in trouble with congestion and precision is much more paramount.

bar box record.

Sorry. I think johnnyt has your world record beat. Has over a 100 balls ran on a bar box. Lol :) if memory serves me correctly.

I ran a little over 100 twice in 12 years on my Valley. 14.1 on a BB win help you with your short position on the 9'. Johnnyt

216

I went to a tournament with Jesse E a couple of years ago. It was 8 ball on Valleys. We were playing on a team so I wanted to warm up with some scotch doubles straight pool. Our first attempt we put together something stupid. It's funny, I can't remember for sure, it was at least 216 but it could have been 226. In the end Jesse left me a razor thin back cut where I had to blast into the stack and I caromed off the stack and scratched up table. He still gives me crap about dogging it ;)

Congestion aside, it is EASY on a bar box. The hardest part is staying interested. I am out of stroke and if someone gave me 6 hours I would bet I could run 100. On the 9 foot I've only done that 2 or 3 times, and I've played the game a bit. I would say running 100 on a bar box is like running 50 on a big table.

Is this like one of those myths that says it is so much easier to break and run on a BB than it is on a 9' table?

Congestion aside? That is like saying other than the extra 2' you may have to actually shoot a shot at, it is so much easier on the 9 footer.

The proof is in the pudding. Run 100 balls on each table and you'll see it's night and day. Bar box is WAY easier.

The make percentage goes up.
The ability to cheat the pocket and play better cue ball goes up.
The number of dead combinations in the stack that can be used to not only keep a run going but open up the pack goes up.

We're talking just straight pool here, but that is what this post is about. Bar box 14.1 is so easy the biggest challenge is boredom.

I play it on a bar box to work on focus .. because it is difficult to stay focused and continue to go through your pre shot routine when most of your shots are simple.
