bar table vs 9ft table?

I hear people whine about how bad bar tables play all the time and how everyone prefers to play on a 9ft table.

Is it common for a player to play above or below their normal 9ft table speed on a bar box. I dont mean just a little bit better or a little bit worse, I mean substantially better or worse. I know some players who just cant play well on a bar table and I know others who cant miss.

Input?

I'll add my own thoughts and experience after a few people chime in.

Thanks,

Yeah, I think you are correct. Alot of people play way better/worse on them.

I grew up on 9ft/860 cloth. I used tons of spin, and had a real weak, pump handle stroke. I played pretty good on that equiptment, but on a slow bar table where stroke and centerball and follow are king, I played waaaay under my normal game.

Once I finally learned to play the game right, got a compact straight stroke, my big table game has become more consistent and my bartable game is LIGHT YEARS better than it used to be.

Funny, it's hard to find a bar table without 860 cloth in around my way.

I would say your bar table improved because its a lot easier to go from a regulation table to a little bar box,as opposed to the other way.

congestion!

I suck anyway, but I always run more balls on a big table because it's hard for me to get good shape on balls that are surrounded by the congestion on a smaller table.

Funny, its hard to find a bar table around here that you dont need a week-wacker! haha.

I played for about 6 months before I moved to Hamilton in a VNEA league, here they only have leagues on 9ft tables. I had never even played on a 9ft table before. The transition was not fun.

I am happy with my progress in my short time playing, about 3-4 years.
