How do I get my hands on a sac of dees nuts? I hear they are quite tasty. :D

Seriously, it sounds like her nuts are da nuts, so can anyone provide a link so I can buy a bag? :)

Or are they only made recreationally and not for sale? :(

Oops, I just realized this was NPR, although it's sort of main forum material I think. Anyway, sorry if it's in the wrong place.

Barbara makes these nuts herself and drags them to VF and gives them out by the bag to the staff she has worked with there and to a few fortunate others. I'm sure she continues to make them for her own use during the rest of the year, but she doesn't have a commercial operation. From what I understand making them is a great deal of work, to make them commercially she would probably have to quit her job.
She can certainly correct me if I've made misstatements here, but I think it is pretty close.

D'oh! Thanks Cats! :)

Catscradle is correct. Barbara only makes the nuts for her friends, and gives them out at the SBE every March. This year Barbara and Pete had some other commitment and couldn't make it...which was a first for her (she and her husband always work for Allen Hopkins at the SBE)! I've been lucky enough to get some of those nuts several times, and they are THE BOMB!...sugar and cinnamon baked pecans...mmmmmmmmmm!:D

Thanks for the vote of confidence, guys. They've been dubbed numerous names, "Legal Crack Cocaine" being one of my faves.

I would quit this job in a New York minute if I could get a business plan going and some capital to make these to sell publicly. I love cooking and baking!

I'm going to look into becoming "serve-safe" certified and may open up a mail order business in the future. If there's anyone in NJ reading this and can help me about the certifying thing, I can swing some nuts in return for the favor.

Barbara<~~~certifiably nuts!

There's a show I've been watching on CNBC called The Big Idea and it's all about helping entrepreneurs to get their ideas off the ground. I'm sure there are better places to get that info without the fluff, but I think it's a good show, especially to help amp up the motivation to follow the dream.

Once you are ready to take orders, you could always send the host some nuts and see if he invites you on the show! :D Hehe. :)

OMG

I won a pound bag of Barbara's nut in a raffle here at AZ,
and Barbara I think bumped up the bag to about 10 pounds,
and then sent it to me overnite.

I swear that in my 500 years, (yes I am that old)
I have never had any nuts that were this addictive.
They were the best, truly.
If they were for sale on line. I would
buy them, that is how good they were.
All the best

Thanks mrs.g!

Just for the record, when I mention a 2 lb bag of pecans, they are "raw" pecans. Done up, the nuts can weigh about 3 1/2 pounds per 1-gallon ziplock bag.

2 lbs. of pecans + "done up" = 3.5 lbs. = 2,000,000 calories (but they're all GOOD calories...meaning, of course, that eating them does NOT shorten your lifespan...just like playing pool! :D)

The power of the nuts:

The following happened at the Expo a few years ago:

Exactly right! This was before they had the Pit action downstairs. In fact, it isn't out of the realm of possibility that we (not just we, but we) were a big part of the transformation and development of the Pit. The action tables were upstairs next to the bar rather than the now customary basement floor.

The ol' "twenty on the breaker" wasn't as circus-like as it is now, but it was still heart thumping. Pros were generally not seen upstairs, but a lot of stone cold bar table killers were still always in action. I bet the nuts vs. a sawbug against a guy everyone was calling "Dot Com." And it wasn't Paul Phillips.

He should have lost, but his opponent choked. All the while, XXX and I were steadily eating the nuts, in case I lost! And I lost. Dot Com didn't bet it back.
What a nit.

My next sad nuts story happened the following year. Barbara gave me the big bag of nuts, and I put them in the trunk of the car on the ride home. XXX's car. Or XXX's rental. Never saw them again. Curses.

I've also had years that I actually got the nuts all the way home, only to have my family down each one without even thinking about me. Nice. Well, at least someone actually ate them.

Barbara...Wow! XXXX bet YOUR nuts against only $10? Now THAT'S a nit! They are easily worth 5X that much, imho! :D

Scott Lee ~ hoping for another bag of Barbara's nuts NEXT year at the SBE
