Sorry, have not been on the site for awhile. I will give you a review of Johns cues. I own three of his playing cues, a break cue and a jump cue. I have note gotten rid of any of them and have owned since 2010. I have two anniversary cues being built for me right now because of how pleased I am with his work. Lets start with the fact that his cues do not look anything like other cues. No taper all the way up the stick, no pro taper but a master taper, front weight versus rear weight, corked shaft instead of sending it to China or some jungle to be made in pieces and assembled in the US. He makes everything himself and it shows. The quality of these sticks is very high. The prices are high too, but if you think about how much time goes in and how few he makes then it makes more sense. I started looking at custom cue builders in 2008 and was following several of them until I picked John in 2010. I wanted to make sure he had some staying power. I wish I would have bought earlier. I find that they keep down the deflection so well that when you miss the center you can still pocket balls. The tuned shaft is worth the money. All of the production cues have followers because their websites say they have the best stuff. These guys are making tons of shafts in their production facilities and not one is individualized. That means if you do find a robot to test them on then you would get inconsistencies with the same shaft from the same maker. Why? Because they don't care enough to make everyone play the same. John does. He is very easy to work with and can customize the stick to fit anyone. The main thing I saw in the custom builders was better quality materials and higher prices. But I did just stop at the local league shop lately to see some of their higher end cues for sale. Look at the racks carefully the next time you are there and it does not seem to matter what production company is making them they all look the same. All the collars are at the same height. All pro tapers, all have mixed non-matching ring work, plastic ferrules and linen wraps. I picked up a $700.00 cue and it had a 1/4 inch bow or better. Is that worth the money? Johns cues come perfectly straight. And stay very straight. His tips are great! Have them on all of my cues, even the production cues I own. I like the super grip the best, but am trying out the water buffalo right now. The hit of the cue is very nice and the stick gives great feedback to you on how straight your stroke is and where you are hitting the ball. Love the balance with the weight in the front. Helps keep the shaft down. I do not know why everyone is not doing this. Once you play awhile with one other cues just seem to feel cheap. That is the quality of the internal construction of the cue. I highly recommend them to anyone looking to up THEIR game some. Equipment does matter, or these production companies with LD shafts would have no body to sell to. I hope this review helps some.
