Barry Szamboti cue deal through Chenz gone bad

I bought a Barry Szamboti hoppe cue that Vinny was selling for his friend Chris. The cue was sent to Dennis Searing to be refinished rewraped and make two Searing shafts. When this cue was send to Dennis, Chris was never going to sell it, but after Dennis taking longer than Chris wanted to wait he contacted Dennis ranting and cursing to Dennis about such. Then Chris decided to sell thr Barry hoppe cue. I had told Vinny that i was looking for a Szamboti cue previiously. Vinny contacted me that he had a friend who had one that was for sale. I agreed to buy the cue and pay for Dennis' repair work and Dennis would mail the cue directly to me when finished. Vinny had sent me pictures that were sent to him by Doug Baltrip when Vinny purchased the cue from Doug(no shafts). Vinny brokered the cue for his friend Chris and p.m.ed me his name and address asking me to mail the payment to his home address and have the check made to him Vincent P----e. I paid Dennis for his work and was sent the Barry hoppe cue with two Searing shafts and the old shafts that were sent to Dennis. Everything was great at first. The searing shafts and the butt were perfect. Then i pulled up one of the old shafts and said a couple of unmentionables. The collars on the old shafts are 1/8in. shorter in length than the collars on the joint. Also they are 29 1/2inches long and the butt being 28 1/2 inches long. I immediately called Barry Szamboti and told him of the different length collars on the joint and shafts. He told me that this could not ever be on a cue that he made, they were not his shafts, they were"B--- S---"shafts. Later i sent close-up pictures of the butt and old shaft's collars to Barry, Dennis, Vinny to see better. I called Vinny and asked him for a full refund or the cost of two used Szamboti shafts and i would put out the difference in the cost of new ones from Barry. Vinny said that he was not going to do anything and do not call him anymore. Because of the death of Art i did not want to bother Barry with calls about this so Dennis Searing has the cue again and has graciously agreed to verify everything between he and Barry. What do you think that Vinny should do to get this mess resolved? Bob C

I think before you start some flame wars here u need to resolve the matter privately. There is plenty of people out there that can give you very good advice. We just need to keep these type of things to come up on AZ at a minimum, it won't be good to anybody, believe me!

I have already tried everything before i ever posted on Vinny's thread for the Richard Harris cue. I was advised by two top cue dealers to do so because of his non response. All he has to do is contact me and it.s over. There;s too much money involved to let it go. AS i said, I'm open minded. Just do the right thing Vinny. Bob Corcoran #301-351-5178 v.w. cell

Big cue. This is not a used car deal here. It is not origional. It was sold as origional. The seller will not take the cue back? The seller refuses to pay partial payment for proper shafts?
No one buys a as is Barry cue sight unseen. This is why. We are talking in the 6K range for people thinking this is some small matter, it is not.
The cue needs origional shafts or the price should be adjusted. Better yet seller keeps their cue. And you wonder why they won't take it back?

I agree... if Bob was lead to believe the shafts were authentic, and original to the cue purchased, and were not...Thats a BIG problem..

Hi Nick you hit it right on the button. I have never known Vinny to ever act like this before. Maybe he gave up the money too fast and doesn't want to have to pay out of his pocket. I don't think his friend Chris ever keeps any money very long but Vinny sold the cue for him and took payment in his name. I just can't figure out why he's playing ostrich about this. Bob

I agree completely. When you buy an investment cue like this it better be ALL ORIGINAL. Original shafts are assumed unless otherwise stated. I would be absolutley livid and want to return the entire cue. I wouldn't want to deal with somebody trying to sell a cue like this without original shafts and not disclosing this before the sale.

I agree completely. When you buy an investment cue like this it better be ALL ORIGINAL. Original shafts are assumed unless otherwise stated. I would be absolutley livid and want to return the entire cue. I wouldn't want to deal with somebody trying to sell a cue like this without original shafts and not disclosing this before the sale.

Doug Baltrip sold the cue to Vinny admittedly with the same shafts, Vinny traded the cue to his friend Chris who knows nothing about cues except that the top name makers cues are good to buy. I think Doug and Vinny should both put up $275.00 for the value of two used Barry shafts and i will add the difference to have Barry make new ones that are correct for the cue. Chris was innocent, Vinny did not want to go back to his friend Doug so he did to Chris what Doug did to him. They both made money, Chris lost $500.00 of what he originally paid Vinny to buy the cue from him. A full refund is really in order but i don't think Chris has it so being fair i will accept $550.00 for used shafts. Bob C.

I think Bob was SCREWED by the REPUTABLE people on this site and furthermore who are YOU to tell him how to conduct his business? The pictures he recieved were of the butt only! Dude always posts pictures of Butt AND SHAFTS till this one!Sells it for a friend that has sent it for a refinish (which it don't need) and 2 shafts. It should have been sent to BARRY for the un-needed refinish! Dennis does make a great SHAFT I have 2 for my GUS!Now BOB has to pay for a un-need refinish and ASKED if it was 58" yep,but 28.5 butt 29.5 shafts with collars 1/8" short I think if you were in his shoes you would be PISSED as well! As for Doug DWBOD he is a great guy very honest which I respect and feel he is my friend,Vinney I don't know but he should bring this matter to CHRIS until BOB is made whole I wouldn't BUY FROM HIM I bought a $8000 cue a couple months ago so I understand where BOB is coming from ! How many $6000- $8000 cues do you own? Untill you own one,and get screwed as BOB has KEEP YOU COMMENTS TO YOURSELF! Ron
