BCA 9 Ball Challenge in Vegas

I was hoping to ascertain which American players were competing in the pro event and which selection criteria were used.

The BCA added another amateur event that precedes the league 8-ball stuff. You don't have to be a BCA league player (but you would need to join the BCA) to play in this 9-ball event. It started today at 9:30, I think. My girlfriend is playing in it and since it is an open event, she is mixing it up with the guys.
Mike and Glenn Atwell were thinking of going a couple days earlier, but changing the flights and getting a room for those days became too much of a hassle and they bagged it.

I'm just curious,how much is the pro event entry?

I'm not sure. You have to be ranked or invited to get in. I played in it once or twice and I think it was the regular entry fee of $500. Maybe one of the pros can elaborate.

There are approximately 160 entries for the 9 Ball Challenge.

Half of the 64-player field is reserved for American players. For the past several years, I was told that the UPA Tour ranking system was used. I do not think in the year 2007 that the UPA Tour ranking system is a good measuring stick.
When I called the BCA one year to find out about how a player who is not a member of the UPA could be put on the waiting list or at least be considered, they said they subcontracted the running of the tournament out, and Steve Tipton at that time was in charge of the player selection and the so-called "waiting list." In other words, the BCA organization at that time had no say on who was competing in the event. It was the subcontractor's call.
There are four qualifiers per year for this event, offering pool players who aren't a member of the UPA Tour an opportunity to compete.
