I recommend watching CSI's latest podcast: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ZYnlw5M__w
Imagine everybody who used to sign up for master, advanced, open, leisure... just signing up for SINGLES
Then at tournament time divisions are drawn based upon who signs up.
So if there are, say 1100 players, the top 170 or so would be PLATINUM; the next 400 or so would be GOLD; the next 400 or so would be SILVER, and the bottom 170 or so would be BRONZE.
This is a total departure and a very cool way of doing it. The old "Open" division consisted of probably most of the players in GOLD and SILVER here. But importantly there were also in the Open division scatter monsters that will be in Platinum now. Those "monsters in the Open" were perhaps a small part of the overall field, but they were a notably larger part of the final bracket (and therefor the prize money).
Now, whoever you are, you will be playing against opponents of reasonably similar speed, and you will have at least some chance of going deep.... Think of clearing the field of land mines....
I really urge people to come to nationals and give this a try. I think you will be impressed, and your own Fargo Rating will get a good head start or will become more established because your matches from the tournament will go in.
Hmmm. Who in top 5 are you not finding?...
Finally, I just did a quick review on some players -- for example, I couldn't find a Fargorate for 3 out of the top 5 players, that finished in the Open singles last year. Wouldn't you want to start at the top and make sure those are the players that are rated?
Thanks.
Here is a question. So the lowest 15% go to the bronze division. Is that the old trophy division?
If so, they pay $100 to get a trophy? Or will this be a money division also?
EDIT: my bad, trophy division was teams not singles. The lowest singles was for people who never cashed before, can't remember the name of this division but anyhoo I answered my own question.
How do I see what games determined my and others ratings?
Also how would you consider, by FargoRate someone who is rated 700? Low level pro?

I'll look more later but previously I couldn't find Jon Brown - the guy who won and no one got past two games on. However now I find him my searching 'Jon Brown'. Before I searched 'Brown, Jon'. I did the search before as 'last name, first name' cause that is how your site lists players so I made the bad assumption that is how you should also search. He still doesn't come up like that. Just a suggestion for you to fix that.
Yes I know Jon brown well. And the peno guy is I think rigo Pena, Santa Ana ca rated 729 with 99 games
By the way - Jon Brown is a 735 -- which only puts him 24 points behind a Top 100 Pro in the world. Pretty good for the guy that won the Open singles last year.
So that leads me to two questions -- does this prove the Fargorate is viable and would have stopped Jon Brown from playing in the Open Singles last year? (And if you know him well too bad you didn't notice he was in the event to tip Mark and his staff off to block it.....just like Lancd Schofield can be found on many league player master lists.) Anyways......
Or does this show that Jon Brown has a huge inflated rating cause of his one year success in the open and really isn't a player deemed to have the skill level 24 points below a Top 100 male pro?
