BCA entries appear to be way down---Rio effect??

All I can say is you have to get your air fare early! I got mine for 220 but I bought it 5 months a head of time.

Dannnggg, I booked my flight from here for $425 direct on Delta. Economy class, cause I'm a nit.

Southwest is the only airline that flies direct to Vega$ from St Louis. And all the airlines are higher than SW even for a one or two stop flight which I wouldn't consider anyways. SW has like 14 flights a day out of St Louis to Vega$ but like I said, it is no longer cheap no matter when you book.

What night you want to go to N9NE?

Everyone should signup for the Total Rewards Card. It covers 8 different hotels including the Rio.

I got my 10 night stay at the Rio for $316.

I love the event and am not against the Rio as I stay on the strip and have a rental car but I think as much of the problem lies with the time frame of July. It's freaking miserably hot then. I checked the entries on like Monday or Tuesday of this week and only showed about 625 so hopefully by next week it'll be up to over 1000. In 2012 I think there was over 1200.

I'm sure Mark and Ozzy will do what is best for the event and hopefully gets back to over 1200. But personally, I love the old May time frame because once June hits I don't want to be in a pool hall again until October. Summer time is golf and lake season!!

As Ozzy said, we are tracking fairly close to last year's numbers. We get a HUGE push on deadline dates and it takes a few days to go through the stacks we have in the office.

It takes some time to verify the entries and to get them processed. The final numbers wont be available for another 3 weeks or so.

We feel the move to the Rio was necessary.
Many people favor the July dates (no school, no Mother's Day conflict) etc.
There is not much difference between Mid May and Mid July weather - it is ALL too hot.
Some of the Northern climates have balked but we feel we can get them back through providing better events etc.

All pricing in Vegas is creeping up - the Rio rates are the same and we think we have some solutions for providing less expensive food options.

Last year was our first year in a new venue - we had a 73 mph storm that blew out electricity for 14 hours and had a lot of other issues that were out of our control.

We feel this year will be better than ever. The pro stuff is very exciting and actually more viable for us.

Come on Mark, Average high temp in May in Vegas is 88º and July is 106º. That is not the same. That being said, you changed to where you allowed shorts so that's a big plus.

July affect. I would go in late august, or early may, but July is brutal for tons of reasons. Add that to people having less money to go around, and you get a drop off in things like national pool tournaments. I now most of the pool players here, don't even pick up a cue between May and Sept. People don't waste good weather indoors here.

Well, I will be at the Rio in 11 days for 1 full week, so after that week I can possibly report back if someone reminds me.

I believe my total cost for flight (both ways) and hotel for 7 nights came to $1,175 which isn't great ($167 a night average), but not horrible since it includes the direct flight both ways.

The Rio is way more expensive when considering your hotel/food cost.

But to me with the upgrade in hotel, restaurants, and service is well worth it. But to most in the pool world I can see where they don't like it.

The other cornor, the place across from Cesar's. Still there could be Bills now, and the food is no deal.

where Aria is?

they dropped Bill's back in JAN. or maybe it was last JUL. i can't think what they're building in it's place. and the Imperial Palace just got bought out in JAN - has a new name.

oh, and there's a MASSIVE new ferris wheel behind Flamingo (largest in the world).

see what you've missed? ;)

Coco, you may not have noticed, but an ice cream cone is no longer a nickel !..Vegas is no different than any other popular tourist destination. Just like here in Phx., they are after your $$$$..Vegas just has more ways to get it !..
..Air fare will no doubt hurt attendance, but no one can control that.

Why do you care anyway, you quit buying cokes when they went to 50 cents :o..When was the last time you played
in a tournament, with an entry fee over $5 ?...I can't imagine you ever going anywhere, but the FREE senior rec centers here in town !..Most people go to Vegas, because its FUN, and they're willing to spend a few bucks to have it !

SJD <--Knows Coco, better than he knows himself !..He is Barton's favorite minion/booster..(check his sig line)

Dick if you can not post a good rebuttal to facts, than you attack the truth. Sin City use to be a place people went to have fun on a budget.

Las Vegas has become IMHO a place where they try, and separate you from ever buck you have from the moment you arrive, to the moment you leave.

I know why you like Sin City, it is because you can smoke every where. It is a smoker Disneyland.

Trust me, I am not missing anything by staying home in Phoenix area. We have Indian Casinos if you want to gamble, and every kind of food you could want.

Travel costs are brutal now.

SWA used to be good for a $200 round trip almost anywhere. Now you're almost immediately past $350 IF you reserve early. A place I used to stay at for a tournament that would run $109 is $169 now. Gas, food, drink are all up. I'm not hurting financially but I do reconsider now when I want to go and piss some money away going to a pool tournament.

they outlawed smoking approx 4yrs ago. only in the main casino & smoking rooms - no hallways, no restaurants, no stores.

NOW, is the BEST time to go to Vegas. prices have been down for 6yrs. lowest i've seen in 12 yrs. and they keep getting lower. Vegas is deteriorating. it's the AIRLINES that are forcing Vegas to practically PAY US to come there. 10yrs ago, i was paying $120-$180/night hotel - now Mandalay, Bellagio, Mirage are $55.

KK9 & i go out there for 5-8nights @ $1100-$1400. hotel & plane. 5 times/yr for my furniture shows (which cross with MG's tourney). last JUL, we took my son for 8 nights @ $1800 total - and we had a penthouse suite @ Mirage. mind you, we spend a lot more above that, but we have a good time....

point is, you can go to Vegas, right now, 7 days, for $650 & ($100) food credit. Rio is MUCH nicer than that $25 Riviera hell-hole @ end of the Strip. join the M-Life Club thing for perks. 118 degrees sucks - but that's what the POOL is for - and i can meet CLEARY with a frozen daquiri!

Thats a fact .. smoking doesn't bother me. My wife is a smoker and I'm not but we were both stunned that you could smoke EVERY WHERE in the casino! Completely opposite to the rest of the country for sure!!

we just got back from Vegas 3 wks ago.
and right now, as of their ad today: MIRAGE @ $55/night & $100 food credit
but the airfare has gone from $200 - $380 - $600....
it's the AIRLINES, who are KILLING IT!!!!

What?!? You were in town 3 weeks ago and you did not call me .:confused::confused:
