I'm no king obama fan but please tell me why you would boycott vegas because of him?

The State of Nevada went for Obama in the last election. Las Vegas is a very big Union Labor town, the Union supported the Democrats, plus tell their member how to vote.

So the day after the election was over I said no more money spent in Nevada. It is my personal choice, and I know many others who also are now boycotting Nevada.

Funny thing is about the Las Vegas Iron Workers Union. They had no problem working with Non Union fabricated structural steel, hauled to their job site by Non Union trucking companies. I know this as I hauled a lot of the structural steel to that job site.

I'll spend my money were I want, and you spend your where you want.

OK?

I'm a down with union guys any way .. most unions any way. Well good for you...make a stand. unfortunately I think no one will care and if you enjoy going to vegas to play in the big tournaments the only one that will be hurt is you.

Trob, you need to know Coco like us locals do...He only uses the unions as another excuse !..Coco hates gambling in general, but his biggest hatred, is 'spending money' on ANYTHING !.. The odds of him playing in any event, with an entry fee, over $5, or springing for a hotel room, over $10, are about 5 billion to one !..(about the same odds, of him EVER going to Vegas) ;) :sorry:

Coco,
Do you have something against people earning a middle class income with benefits?
I'm going to retire at 60 in about 12 1/2 years with 32 years in the IBEW. This should get me about $6K a month before taxes and decent Health Insurance. How many Non-Union Electricians after 32 years in the trade say that?
Don't get me wrong I am not trying to brag about my retirement plans, I'm only pointing out that for the most part working Non-Union sucks.
Republicans hate unions and always talk about family values. Well it's the Unions that provide the opportunity for true family values such as a
40 hour paycheck covering that bills so a man or woman can spend quality time with their family.
Afford their members the ability to put their children through higher education.
Members can retire with dignity and not be a financial burden on their families.
ETC...............................

Some come and support Las Vegas, support the middle class and family values.

Many people are against people getting something they didn't earn. And if you are union, and not free market, it most certainly wasn't all earned. It was gotten through nothing less than legalized extortion and strong arming.

And as a result, everybody else has to subsidize the union worker's grossly overpaid salaries through the higher costs of goods and services. And many don't even have jobs because of unions because more and more companies and just going overseas to avoid dealing with unions and having to pay the union people more than they are worth.

This is how it should work (and how it does work outside of unions). If you don't like your pay or benefits with one company, you go work for another company. If one company can't attract the talent they need, they will start paying more to get better talent. Companies will pay according to the value that you bring to them. It is called a free market, and everybody ends up getting paid what they are worth. I know you may not be happy with the amount you end up getting paid, but it still is all you are worth, all you deserve, and all that you have earned. To extort more than that is theft.

What if all companies that used electrical workers all got together and said from now on they will no longer pay above $15/hr, and would only offer X benefits, and anybody that doesn't like it is fired? And you have no choice because you need a job and it is the only skill you have so you are stuck because all the companies agreed to it amongst themselves and there is nothing you can do about it. Well companies aren't allowed to do that, and workers shouldn't be allowed to band together and use strong arm extortion either.

You're right PP9, all those workers who once made a decent wage will then have to use that much hated government program called WELFARE!. Which do you hate more? Some unions do have too much power. Here in Rochester, we used to have Eastman Kodak Company. Do to some stupid errors in judgement, like dropping all digital research to concentrate on photographic film, our once proud company is down to less than 10% of its former self. All the present AND past employees recently lost their healthcare benefits. No money grubbing union at Kodak! Bet they're sorry now. The chief executive who made that decision left with a $15 million dollar bonus for his stupidity and shortsightedness.

Guess you're not part of the great 99%. You must be really well off to dispise union workers so much. You and Coco must be some of the people who made billions and millions off the backs of those greedy workers.

Incidentally, I'm not a union guy nor have I ever been. As in every situation, there's more than one side to every story. We weren't alive when unions began and have never endured the conditions those people worked under. Unions helped drive the middle class. Perhaps some unions are too powerful today but.... which one of those benevolent companies are going help pay YOUR medical bills when you're sick? Come on now, you know the answer to that question don't you?

WRONG, you should cut down on the FOX News channel viewership.

Free Market in action:

Companies CHOOSE to become signatory with the IBEW and CHOOSE to hire Union Labor because the IBEW produce people who are better trained & skilled in the Electrical industry.
The IBEW Union also provides a signatory contractor the ability to expand or shrink their work force overnight depending on the contractor's needs.
The ability to put in a job call for 1-100 men and receive 1-100 skilled electricians to their job site the very next day is an awesome advantage over the traditional put an ad in the News Paper an interview 600 people to find 100.

You can keep your Non-Union Rat race, Cut Thought, mentality and I will stick with the Men & Women of the Union who brought this great nation the middle class, weekend, overtime, safety in the workplace, child labor laws, etc.......................................

Hey I understand that some Unions went off the rails with their demands and that's human nature. However in the overall picture we are much better off with Unions then with out them.

you union guys keep screaming for them while business keep saying f you and leaving the country. When its cheaper to make something on the other side of the world and ship it here and still make more profit there's a problem. The problems with most unions in this country is instead of working with the company they work against them. You need the company your working for to be profitable so you can continue to be employed and they need you to help them stay that way. instead most unions have the attitude of when things are going great pay me.. when things take a turn and the company is struggling F@#$ you pay me any way. then they scratch there heads like idiots wondering why they don't have a job. I've seen it here over and over. The only company that was smart enough to make some concessions around here when the economy went to shit was Harley. union workers are over all good people..it's the people running them that make it bad.

btw heres a great union idea. Harley now hires CASUAL workers. They make $17 an hour with no benefits and they GET TO PAY UNION DUES lol Thats right... you get no backing from the union .. no benefit from them what so ever. But if you want the joy of working in a factory and earning a living you got to pay them. That's called legal extortion my friend. That's what the mafia did when they made you pay to open your store on there block lol

But they are not, and not much is cheap in Las Vegas any longer. I recall the day of inexpensive rooms, breakfast specials, dinner special, and world class buffet for reasonable prices.

Back than I think the Casino's made out on gaming losses. Today the game plan of the Casino's is to seep rat the visitor from ever dime from the moment they step in to any thing in sin city, be it hotel, motel, or ?

That is the way it is, and what was is no more.

The mob days are over and it sucks.

I have been in the casino business for nearly 10 years now and have seen changes. The thing with Vegas is not only is it expensive, but as others have said getting there is getting to be a joke.
Not only that, with so many other casinos around the US now, Vegas has to get as much as they can out of every customer they get.
Vegas is still a destination city and airlines know people will pay to get there, so of course they charge as much as they can.

No kidding...I'll be at the Rio in 1 week. To keep this "pool related" I will now go downstairs and shoot the 9 ball in the corner. Good job Matt.

Went to vegas two weeks ago and saw Penn & Teller at the Rio with my wife and some friends. It is a nicer casino for sure then some of the others we went to. If my first born wasn't due in July I would have had my ticket months ago.

1st opportunity since Korea to play in something big in Vegas and I knock the old lady up. Maybe I will get to Vegas after I retire.

So the day after registration is closed (they probably have more to count) it's at 783. A 27% dip from last year. I personally don't see this is a coincidence, have the people spoken?

How about the issue with the BCAPL and the state of Wisconsin --- does that have anything to do with it? Are entries from that state down?

It's tough to count from the website but looks like 46 in 2013 to 18 in 2014. So yes it's down 61% in Wisconsin.
