Bca Hof

Grady

Pro Player
I'm at a point in my life where things are pretty good for me and I no longer care much whether I ever get in the BCA HOF. What I don't understand though, is this. I know that I have been nominated more than once, yet I never see my name mentioned at all.
It's hard for me to believe that I have never received one vote.I mean, who exactly votes and where are the final, exact tallies?
Steve Booth is doing a fine job with his Onepocket.org. Wonderful players,
some of whom haven't a prayer of ever getting in the BCA's HOF, will be duly honored and recognised. Steve is planning to attend the DCC. If you are a serious pool lover, do yourself a favor and introduce yourself.
Happy New Year to everybody,
Grady

I'd vote for you, but I don't get a vote. :D

Once again, another travesty....

If anyone has donated more of their time, heart, and soul to the game of pocket billiards than Grady Matthews, I defy someone to find them and point them out. It is unbelievable and shocking that Mr. Matthews is not in the HOF. UNBELIEVABLE, I SAY!!!!

Grady, From what I know about the process of deciding who will be elected to be nominated, it is very hush hush and in the past political.
Grady, you would have my vote in a minute if they nominated you. You have been an inspiration to many and a good friend.

Happy New Year to you and Randi.

Here is the Hall of Fame Nominating Committee. If you want to know more about the details of the process, you may want to ask one of them. If you want to nominate someone, you should list his accomplishments in the Nominating Letter to give the Committee a head start on their research. For example, if you are going to nominate a player, list the titles, dates and locations of the national and international championships he has won.

Hi Grady, my name has been placed 3 times out of the last 4 years, and as you, have never seen it come to print. The first year my name was submitted, Steve Ducoff, called me and told me of 7 people who put my name up for the service award. The next year I was told 5 folks put it up, then you and 4 other came forward last year, with my name.

Who knows what goes on behind those closed doors.
I think the format should be as the OSCARS are done.
Table man votes for table man, player votes for player and so on.

Seems to me, those who really work the hardest, suck hind tit..........

I like you Grady, could care less.

Figure this, THE BCA, has no pool-players in a league, or owns a league.

However, they do have SPA'S and such, THAT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH OUR WAY OF LIFE.

The best thing we have going for us Grady, is we each have a great women on our team........

All the best to all, in the coming year, and good night.....

Hi Blud,

I assume your name was in for the Meritorious Service category, and primarily for your contributions as a cue maker. Is that correct? Did you see the supporting documents that the nominators submitted when they submitted your name? I know that in the past there were some committee members who felt that only players should be nominated.

In any case, the Nominating Committee has to put together supporting material for the voters to read. If they have no material on someone it is unlikely that they would forward a nomination. And they may not be able to uncover that information on their own.

I don't know about voting you into the HOF, but I like you.

Grady does belong, no doubt

:p  :p Grady Mathews has done more for pool than just about anyone in this country and was one of the country's very best players for nearly 50 years. If they are not going to put him in the hall of fame they should eliminate the Hall of Fame. Of course this is the same outfit (BCA) that let me spend almost $2,000 traveling to get certified to teach, then took my teaching status away because I wasn't teaching full time. Man, what a joke, I should sue them. :p

Grady and Blud would both get my vote. However, it is Political and I really do not put much to it! BCA like the others is just another Political Machine! I really do not care for any of these so called organizations! We have the Employee of the year award where I work and the one that Kisses the Owners A$$ is the one that gets it.. so what! :( :(

Smorg.. you cannot drink as much as your letting on as you would be Deep Six by now! I think you are only being funny on this.. right Smorg?

I know a good lawyer, Hump. Wait,,,,,,,,,you do too. They might want to re-think your suspension.

Grady, you know, as well as all of us older generation guys, that you belong in the HOF. It is a disgrace to the BCA.

That really is bullshit on their part. Once you've jumped through all the hoops and qualified by their criteria, you should be able to maintain it forever, unless they have a recertification process that you might have to go through after a number of years.
Why didn't you just lie...what way do they have of verifying it or following up?

There is some other info on the BCA web site.

The membership voting information can be found in the BCA Membership Directory, mailed to all members. It states (2001 directory and I am sure all those printed in 02-05) that Voting members (those that pay $1,000 per year for membership) have a full vote on BCA issues (including the Hall of Fame inductees) and are eligible to rent an unlimited number of booth spaces at the Expo. The Associte members have a half a vote of BCA issues but, and can have two booths at the Expo, the book does not state if their half vote goes towards the HOF inductees. All Retail, Proprietor, Amusement Operators, Retail Outlets, Room Proprietors, Affiliate and Non-Profit Rec Centers have no vote, kinda ironic that the business's that deal directly with the playing side of the game have no vote, then again, its no wonder, the BCA got rid of their Player Program side, and no surprise they are the ones who pick the next HOF inductee's. Keep in mind they are manufacturer's and they will tend to pick the one who will sell more of their product (probably why Mataya got in before Earl), does it sound like politics, if you ask me its a crock,Of,BCA (Beware Corporate Agenda) group, welcome to good "old boy" USA. One other thing, the BCA board members as a group, in the last 15 years have never all gone to a pool room to shoot pool after a board meeting, now golf, thats another story.

Gerald...Why would you have to spend $2k to travel to a certification school? You live in New Orleans, and there are schools in Houston & Dallas. I don't know the specifics of your individual case, however, the BCA Certified Instructor Committee requires ONLY 12 student referral forms per year, to maintain your status. That is hardly requiring you to teach "full time"! Additionally you are required to attend one 'continuing education' seminar once every three years.

Scott Lee ~ BCA certified instructor who DOES teach full time

I too learned years ago not to bite the hand that feeds me. Can't say I blame you, Scott.

Tap tap tap!!! Grady Mathews is a living legend and should not be forgotten.
Where I live we have trouble with our politicians and as a result people suffer. The BCA is too political and because it is so, many great pool players won't get the recognition they truly deserve.RJ
