He's been in the loser's brackets, but he's still in the tournament.... (good luck to him)

hehehe...when i wrote it he was still on the winner's side. either way he is doing great

Congratulations to John Morra Jr on winning the under 18 boys division, good for the young Canadian. I assume he is the son of Canadian player Mario Morra? Does anyone have more info on John? I hear he is one hell of a player for his age.

thanks for the encouragement, i just got back from tucson....i dont know what happened i won my first 3 matches, then i face Chris furell (he ends up being the 14 and under champ) it was 1-1 then 2-2 then my mental game just broke down....he was up 6-2 before i knew it, then he was on the hill while i was at 2 still. i went to the bathroom and came back, it ended up being 6 (or 5 ) -9. but it was ok because i still thought i could come back from the losers bracket so i was up 5-2 on this kid and he came back and won...i think it was my mental game but that's no excuse, well i will be back in 14 and under next year (pretty sure they are moving it back) and im going to get in the top 2. O and I tied for 9th. OOoo yes john, me and him hung out a lot at the hotel. he is a great overall player, he is VERY sportsmanship always in line for next shot even if he missed. he never makes a good or bad face or shows emotion. it was great watching him play. he showed me some shots that will defiantly help me. yes his mom and dad are pro players. he is only 15 so he will be there the next 3 years. he's going to do great in world. my favorite thing about him is his break. he has a great GREAT break and right after he breaks he does not even look at the table see what he made he goes and gets his reg. cue because he knows he made something. The only emotion I saw him make was when he won it all he made a fist with his hands. It was a great experience and thanks for all the support. ill be there next year

Hey Stephen,

Sounds like you had alot of fun and played great. It is just a lesson to learn from. It also sounds like you got to meet some great people. Practice hard and you will be a champion sooner than imagine.

Take care,
Sarah

Hustler08....Hey kid, you did great and have a lot to be proud of and so do your parents. Your summation of the tournament in your post was a class act and there were no sour grapes or excuses shown, only praise. That's a sign of a winner. You'll be kicking my butt and a lot of other players in a few years. If you need any help with your non-tournament pool room vocabulary, get in touch, if you know what I mean. ;)

Thanks Sarah, and I think it was a good exp. I guess you have to be a good loser before winner (unfortanly). But next year will be great. Drivemaker, hahaha ill get with you on that vocab :D, thanks again for all the support!

Congratulations on your 9th-12th finish, hustler08.
With another year of play under your belt, I'm sure that you'll be someone to watch closely next year. Mitchell Menes from Tampa came in 7th-8th and everyone from Planet 9-Ball is VERY proud of him. We had hoped that you two might meet in the semi-finals. Maybe next year. Congratulations once again....

Morra was a class act during the entire final match. He trailed big, but never let it get to him and came back for a great win. Strawn plays a very fast paced, aggresive, confident game and Morra never strayed from his methodical game and it worked for him in the end.

I will give everyone here one guess as to which AzB cue maker made the magic wand that Morra used for the win. One hint, remember that Morra is from Canada.

Mitchell Menes is a great guy. We hung out and played a little together, and tlaked a little. I am looking forward to seeing him next year.
P.S. That was a awsome Planet Pool shirt he had on.

My son played in the Juniors. Sounds to me like you did great Hustler08! Congratulations! They have some great players out there in the juniors and sounds like you're one of them. Great attitude too!

Thanks Rick, if your son is in jr.nationals next year tell me and we can meet up. Thanks again

Unfortunately, he's not in the Juniors anymore, he'll be 21 next month. Would have been nice to have met you.

Hi Stephen,

I am sure you would have loved to do better but you did have fun and learned quite a bit. I am sure you will improve. Your honesty and humility are refreshing. Pool needs more folks like you. Good Luck in the future and keep us posted.

Jerry

John Morra is actually the son of Mario Morra (a pro player from Ontario) and Anita kuczma (former canadian 9-ball champ). Playing pool runs in the family I guess. Mario is always supporting John and actually spends more time right now following the performances of his son then his own. I saw John play for the first time 3 years ago (he was 11 or 12 at the time) and he was already very impressive. His game has matured a lot and he plays with a stunning confidence (His "pool idol" has always been Alex P., can't go wrong with that style of play!) . I'm not surprised even at 15 he could win a big tournament like that. His attitude is so mature for a player his age. It's really an honour for me to have such a young and talented player playing with my cues. Definitely a future canadian champ, who knows maybe the next Alex P.
