BCA Las Vegas in May

Cue Balls

What cue balls are they using on the Diamond tables? I know the Diamonds will take a standard cue ball, but is it a measles, blue circle, red circle, or some other?

Yes! This will be my first year going to the BCA in Vegas. Quite excited. Playing both singles and team. I have seen pictures of the play room with over 100 tables, wow!

As mentioned the Riv is full. I just booked a room at the Circus Circus across the street, if you book a room there call them and tell them its for the BCA, they do have a discount. If they ask the discount code is B05BCAP-BCA.

Interesting to know that there is shuttle to another pool hall.

I heard that the tables in the Riv are always full so not much chance to practice, so I am told. Has anyone had problems getting on tables to practice and warm up?

Nuthin but tables in Vegas! Will be seeing a lot of tables there...craps, blackjack and pool!!

More like 240 tables between all the rooms. I would imagine that it will be the red circle cueball. Maybe Mark can let us know? Mark??

Yes...red circle cue ball. It states the equipment that is being used on their website. Super Aramith Pro balls and red circle cue ball.

When you're in your room be sure to use the lock that flips over the little ball and prevents the door from opening up more than a couple of inches.

Timberly,
That is a good advise for all practical purposes.
I have been living in the hotels for most part of my life in the last 11 years.I leave all my expensive stuff in the the hotel rooms unsecured. My laptop is always left in the hotel room. I leave my Bank Check books also in the hotel room .Do u know what they stole from me in the last 11 years? I lost only an EYE BROW TWEEZER , stollen by a non English speaking maid in a hotel in a small town in Northern california 4 months ago. That was funny.A jacket stollen in a three star hotel in Kalamazoo, Michigan nearly 8 years ago.I did stay in Riviera many times with the above mentioned valuables and I did not loose anything. My clothes are washed in public laundry rooms for most part of my life.I only lost one sock so far and it was in new Jersey in oct.1994.
So far I have been LUCKY.

I read a post on here somewhere (I could've sworn it was Melissa Herndon) but I can't find it anyway. Whoever made the post said that she & her mother were rooming together and when they woke up their door was ajar (if I'm remembering this correctly). In the middle of the night while they slept in their beds, their room was robbed. Lock every lock imaginable when you're in your room. ;)

Good advice Timberly. I remember one year I went back to my room after lunch. I had left my cue there and wanted to get it to go back to the tournament room. When I got to the room, the maid was cleaning. Her cart was kind of (though not completely) in front of the door, which was wide open. She was cleaning the bathroom. From the hallway I could see my cue lying on the bed. Seriously, anyone could have taken it (and anything else in the room).

It was only about 1 in 2 if the maid would ask me to insert my key in the door to verify that it was my room. I asked her if she could close the door while cleaning my room and she said they weren't allowed to do that.

Since then I learned to lock up ANYTHING valuable in the safe, and at the very least, keep the cues out of sight if the door were to be open.

Anyway, I'll be in Vegas from May 11-22. Singles, Scotch, and Team.

People said that last yr there was a shuttle bus taking people to a pool room from the riv every couple of hours if I'm not mistaken. I'm sure someone that knows what they did & if they're going to do it again will see this and hopefully post a reply with the info.

Every year, there is a shuttle that runs from the Riv to the Cue Club on Sahara. It runs pretty late but usually has the last one around 1.30 AM. The Cue Club is open 24hrs.

Eric >sadly, won't make it this year

When I use to work for Palmer, between the three tournaments, I lived at the Riviera for a month and a half for 5 years running. A word of advise make sure that you pull you room door shut tight. Some of the doors don't always latch if not pulled tight. Also make sure you watch your cue like a hawk ALL THE TIME!! My other suggestion is request a room that over looks the pool. Way more scenery!! The buffet is not great but not that bad. I eaten it probably 150 to 200 times of course it was always on a comp. I would reccomend Sunday brunch at the Orleans. Its great!! The Sahara is another place to stay that's walking distance. Good Luck to all and have fun.

I heard they were going to tear down the Riv and Circus Circus (or was it the Sahara?) soon to rebuild. Where's the BCA going to go if that happens?

Barbara

Im gonna be there I am very excited. My grandfather lives there and I will be staying with him. Can't wait to shop at the booths. Im playing in singles, team, speed pool, and whatever minis and or action I can get into.

Yea the tables will have red circle cues. I played on the tables at the Texas BCA state tourney and I hope they do something about the pockets because they were easier than anything I have ever played on. That combined with brand new simonis, level tables, good rails, good balls = everyone runing out. I swear people that had no buisness running out were. I ran out 13 games out of my 6 matches when I played in 8 ball singles. It all really came down to if you made a ball on the break. I was in a match and it was 2-2 the guy scratched, I ran, I broke and ran, he came up dry, I ran the guy out. I lost my next match to a banger the same way it was ridiculous. My point is the pockets, if the same, are far too big.

As far as I know, it is only the Stardust that they are going to tear down & rebuild this fall.

According to conversations I had with Mark Griffith last year, he states that the Riviera is the only hotel in Vegas with enough convention space to hold the BCA tournament. That being said, looks like the BCA is stuck there but again, you have no reason to sleep in their hotel, gamble on their tables/slots or eat their food, and I use that term loosely. You want some fun, go by the front desk late Tuesday night and see all the people trying to check in for rooms that they overbooked on. Nothing better than standing in line for an hour to get your room after you are all exciting about being in Vegas. Just another buzz kill by the Riviera for you to be expecting.

LOL! Ah geeezzz, here we go with the food again! lol! I know Watchez is going to make me "Eat" my words on this bet we have going. BTW~ I have your $2.00 off coupon off waiting for our date buddy! :p

I have also, had the same conversation several times with Mark. He says that the Riv is not for sale, and I am sure he is keepng his eye on the property.

I have seen that "LINE" as well. I solve that problem by checking in a day early and always booking through my slot host. I was only in that line once, about 15 yrs ago. I swore NEVER to stand in line again.

hopefully next year

Unfortunately having money, job, marriage issues that will keep me from attending this year. So please everyone do a shot for me (those of you that indulge)

A friend of mine told me the same thing about the tables at the 9-ball nationals.

Wireless at the Riviera

Anybody know if there is a decent wireless internet connection in or around the playing area at the Riv?

Evilmoody1, say it isn't so! We need you there! Ah, now look what you made me do, a shot in your memory of not being there.. Hey BTW, I did a shot the other night called a Apple Pie. It was so good. I don't drink, or drink much and this was the best shot I have ever done. So, I will have one of those in your honor.

You will be missed...

Hugs,

E
