Hi,

First time for me and some friends to play this tournament.
Also the first time Vegas for my friends.

We are in the Men's player member singles?
What is the level of play in this division?
What are the length of the races?
I believe the tournament is played on 7ft tables is this right?
Is it double knock out?

Thanks in advance,

MH

The level of play is broad. You will see everything from D player to Open+.
I believe it's race to 5 on winner's side and 4 on loser's side but I could be wrong. If I'm wrong, it's not by much.
Everything is played on 7-foot Diamond Smart Tables. They're coin-ops. You'll need to get tokens which I believe are $1 each.
Yes, it's double-elimination.

What does that mean D-player to Open +
This means they run racks?
Diamond smart tables, means big pockets?
And i have heard they play with a white ball wich in larger then the other balls?

Sorry for the questions, want to be prepared :D

In the Players Singles. I don't think you will see many C players.

I sweated a few matches of a friend that played in the Players Singles last year (he is an A player) and all his matches were against a B player or better.

Quite a few international players as well. I doubt there will be many overly weak players in the "players singles" since a majority of these players are only able to play in this one event.

I think this tournament was designed for the tournament savy player that did not want to go through the weekly league night....

I think this was started to keep the "road type" players from robbing the open without having to pay thier weekly dues...so to speak.

I suspect that since in another thread my main room that I play at (and pay my weekly league dues) is closing...I will probably be playing in the players singles next year......I don't see myself in another league any time soon....;)

Aramth Red Circle Cue Ball.....The pockets are not as generous as your normal bar table... If you draw one of the pro cut tables (black tables) the pockets are cut even tighter.... You will need to be able to run out when the opportunity presents itself an/or controle the table to get very far in the players singles.

What is the difference between A-B-C players?
I am from Europe, and we don't use this kind of names for levels?

You are going to see perfect 8-ball, there's no doubt. There will be some weaker players in the field, I'm sure of it because I've seen it but they won't be around for the later rounds.

The Diamond Smart Tables vary. The rails are all the same but the slate is cut different with some batches. The pocket depth will will determine pocket tightness. On the whole, they play kinda tight to fairly tight. They're no buckets.

The cueball is the exact same size as the object balls. That is the great sell about the Diamond Smart Table. It can use any type of cueball.

I went and checked out the entrants for the player members and the field is small. Watch out for the players from Spain. They hit the balls well. I'll look you up in Vegas, Anthony Weinhold.

You'll see players who run racks over & over & over, and you'll see players who would be hard pressed to run a single rack. The tables are very nice & pockets not big but not small, very clean pocket drop.

MH Did the web site help out in any way? Is that your brother playing in the 9999 also? I'll be playing in three of the events this year. Hope the balls roll well for everyone.

Yes that is my younger (better) brother!
He and Anthony won a qualifier over here and a paid trip to Vegas.
I and another friend join him, they also get some coaching over there from Alex Lely.

What's with the prizemoney, they send it to your bankaccount or cash out at the spot.
Would like to now what to do with the $100,- i win when i am in Vegas

If you win any money, they give you a pay voucher that you can take to the registration desk during specific hours and receive your check. You can either take it home with you and deposit it, or, the Riviera Casino cashier will cash it for you with proper ID.

Note: you have to be over 21 in order to cash the check in a casino.

Good Luck..:D

MH. Go to the plybca web site and click on the 2008 newsletter and scroll down to page 11. It explains the payout procedures. My older is playing in the seniors singles this year.

I think it is a race to 7, at least it was for the women, my friend played in it last year.
