BCA October Grand Master and Master Divisions Combined

What you all think of this?

If not familiar with BCA basically there is 4 divisions:

Grand Master
Master
A
B

Players play in each of their respective divisions. Obviously with onoly 4 divisions and thousands of players the top A player could compete in the Masters and the bottom A could play in the B's and not win it there is overlap based on scores, Fargo rate history local league play etc.

This year they have decided to combine the upper 2 divisions because there is not enough grand masters. To give context Stan Tourangeau is a Grand Master player as is Dan Louie.

With that I am not surprised they combine the divisions because Grand Masters should be included in competition somehow if they do not have enough for their own field. But if they are going to go into the Masters they surely should have to give up a game or alternate method to maintain fairness. Simply putting the GM is the masters field without any incentive for the master players to play is simply unethical and unfair to me.

Thoughts?

Your information is misleading!!!!!

What event is this? (I know but betting most people don't) if you're gonna put out what you portray as a news flash PLEASE put down accurate info.

The BCAPL is not doing anything of which you describe! and I am pretty sure the promoter of this event has good reasons no matter what their changes are. So maybe ask them why they made these changes, rather than asking the general public what they think about them?

Just checked the Western BCA website for the Chinook Winds event and it sure looks like the Grand Master/Master groups have been combined. I didn't see any comments in the players info area regarding any adjustments in the races.

whats misleading about it? its the western BCA event after the Chinook winds open. It says on the website groups will be combined with no adjustments just straight up

i did ask the this exact question to western BCA facebook and the response I got was a simple "yes". they did not defend their decision, just said yes its happening.

this is not an open tournament that we are asking to be handicapped. Its a league for amateur player of differing skill levels. There is 4 categories for a solid reason- there is different skill levels. People pay league fees and matches all year to go and play with players of their own speed. If you want to test yourself you can play in the GM or Masters whatever you want but you cant go rob from the division below. That is what is happening here.

Ok cool lets have the triple A teams play in the MLB also.

Lets have semi pro teams play pro teams.

Nobody is wanting a handout, they pay league fees all year and are matched in their respective decision as amateur players for fun and improvement. let them do that. Dont just let the full time players who are GMs into the lower division to rob them. If you are going to do that you have to at least make it more fair by a game on the wire or something even though at that level bar table 9 ball the GM will still win.
 
I think the big league tournaments split into too many divisions in the first place. When I was first playing league there were basically two divisions, the open and the masters.

The creation of the intermediate, Grand masters, ect... split things up too much and made too many events and made team building way too complex to try and fit properly into some narrow window division.

Most of the players I know liked the two tier system, open and masters. Sure most open teams did not have a chance to win the event, but most teams went down to play some pool, maybe get a couple good matches if the draw worked for them, and generally just enjoy Vegas and the whole trip. When they started micromanaging divisions it split things up too much, created more conflict, split teams up, and removed a lot of the fun.

I actually liked to play in events with some of the best a matures from around North America and see how all the Calgary teams stacked up (we tended to do rather well at times). When they split things up to what it is today I care less because it became too controlled and now good up and coming players don't get into as many matches with top amateur veterans with a chance to rise to the occasion in a national event or at least get a great piece of experience to build on if they lose.

I think they should use Fargo, find a single cut-off, and have the Open and Masters and that is it. All a mature, no full time pros like SVB stepping into the "grand masters" and snapping off what should still be an event for people who do something other than play pool for a living.

I agree in terms of the teams hence why i dont play teams anymore because my buddies and I all started playing together and we all got bumped up after couple sessions so could not play together anymore and call me foolish but i want to play with friends in my own area especially if travelling with them to vegas etc

speaking of micro managing divisions i disagree with it for singles for example APA has skill levels in 9 ball ranging from 1-9 and having played that there is a clear distinction between a 6-7 or 7-8 etc. Sure anyone can beat the other but if you played enough its scarily accurate.

I don't really care what the system is but what gets me is the changing the format to suit them when it suits them. There is 4 divisions therefore there should be 4 tournaments. I should; not be allowed to play in the Bs or As because I am not one of them. Frankly I out skill them. Open tournaments are for people to try their hands at playing top players. Leagues are for growing sport in amateur players and what they are doing here negates that and is also just basically not fair in the purist form.
