BCA Rule question

BCA 8 ball rule 3.8 states it is loss of game to foul when pocketing the 8 ball.

A.Does this mean you lose if you can't make contact with the 8 ball?

B. Does this mean you lose if don't make the 8 ball after contact and fail to drive a ball to a rail?

thanks for helping a noob.

A) No

B) No

You lose if you foul when you're on the eight and the eight goes in any pocket.

Welcome aboard!

Situations in which you lose:

1) Make the 8 and scratch
2) Make the 8 and jump cue ball off the table
3) Hit opponents ball first and 8 goes in
4) Double Hit cueball, 8 goes in (ie. not going 45 degrees on two balls close together)

Key is that you make the 8 ball, but you fouled on the shot somehow.

We had a good one. BCA League match my player broke and made two balls. He then proceeded to shoot and missed. Hence an "open" table. The opposing player then stepped up and shot at a ball missed the ball but it caromed and pocketed the eight ball. How many points does my player get? I read throught the BCA rule book and can not find a proper rule pertaining to this situation.

Depends on how your point system works. If your system gets 8 pts for a table run, it would be 8 pts (1 pt for the 8 ball and 1 pt for each of your opponents balls left on the table).

If a player runs the table and makes the 8 ball in the wrong pocket how many points does his opponent get?

I play BCA and also have never seen a rule covering this. However, it would seem that since neither player established ownership of a group, then neither would get any points for the balls pocketed the break. In our league the winning team gets 10 points, so I would think that the score for this type of scenario would be 10-0.

In BCA in New Orleans, the winner of a game gets 10 points, and the loser would get a point for each one of their balls pocketed in their ball choice(stripe or solid) - but the person did not have to pocket the ball themselves to score the point - it just needs to be off the table at the end of the game.
So if a player pockets the 8-ball in the wrong pocket during their shot, their opponent would get 10 points, and the loser would get a point for each one of their balls off the table.
But when the table is "open" and the 8-ball is pocketed without designating a style ball for either opponent, I believe the other player gets 10 points, and the shooter gets zero, since they have no ball choice in which to count their score - that is how we played it when it happened a while back.

It doesn't happen often, but it could.

****here is another one that would never happen, but what is the rule? Do you know?
A player breaks and makes all 7 of the solids on the break - can they shoot at the eight ball right away for the win?

This should be covered explilcitly, but it rarely is. Maybe it's in the new BCAPL rule set, but in general, the league 10-pt system is not a required system.

That being said, this situation to me seems obvious. The scoring is normally 10 points to the winner, while the loser gets one point for each of his set of balls that have been pocketed. Since the loser never had a group established, he shouldn't get any points regardless if every ball on the table is down. There isn't some other way to determine the score without making something up out of the wording of how to score. That's my opinion, and that's my logic.

All that being said, some leagues I've heard give the most possible points to the loser. IMO, there's nothing that justifies this thought.

And to top it off, the BCAPL Rules do in fact cover this, and I'm wrong again. IMO, it doesn't make any sense, but hey, they make the rules:

Key word is pocketing!

You didn't say if he made one of each or 2 solids or 2 stripes on the break. When someone wins the game the opponent gets whatever balls are down...He gets a 2 if both are solid or both stripe, but if one of each went in he gets 1..
Same as if he had made 2 balls on the break and ran out...The opponent would still get whatever was down...
This happened in our BCA league about 5 years ago. A phone call was made to BCA headquarters and this was the ruling they gave us...
Remember. The loser of the game always gets whatever balls are down....
If someone is shooting and makes 5 balls and then carom's off a ball and kicks the 8 in out of turn, the opponent wins but the one that kicked the 8 in out of turn still gets his 5 balls...
If I am shooting and win the game but happen to kick in one of my opponent's balls in the process, he gets credit for that ball...
