BCA rules question

I think that's true, but I also think the rule about the cue ball when it is in hand shouldn't exist. It is a foul to intentionally touch object balls. I think that's enough. I think the player gets no unfair advantage doing what he pleases with the cue ball when it is in hand, and the fewer rules, the better.

I agree with this. As I've stated, not only shouldn't it be illegal, it isn't illegal. That's my belief, anyway.

Who needs to actually place the cue ball anywere near anything to get an idea of clearance, space and so on. The rules specifically allow using the cue stick for measuring with the only proviso being that it must remain in one's hand. So, ahead of time, just use any ball to make marks on your cue stick that will allow you to approximate very closely the actual size of the ball. Then use your cue stick as the rules allow. :D

Bob, are you saying that with Cue ball in hand, the player can use it to do whatever they want? including measuring?

He's saying he *thinks* they should, not that they do.

Yup. The present rules are unclear.

Personally, I think the player should also be allowed to do whatever he wants with his cue stick, even let it rest on the table along an intended banking line for an object ball. The player gets no unfair advantage from this. I suspect whoever made up the "can't use your stick for planning the shot" rule intended to punish a specific player. I'd like to know a good reason for the rule.

In reference to "laying stick on the table as an aiming device".

BOB. You are absolutely right. The original rule was established from an incident that occurred in the 80's. We called it the Coy Lee rule until it was written into the BCA Rule Book.....randyg
