Be Careful Dealing With Anyone From China & Taking Payment Via PayPal

Quality Cues

I'm not going to name a name at this time. Rather, I going to give all AZ users fair warning. In Janaury 2011, I did a transaction with a guy in China for a $900.00 cue, took payment by PayPal and had no issues. The same guy agreed to wire me funds for my Sugartree flame cue this past Saturday, failed to do so and claimed that his bank could not wire funds on a Saturday and that he could not get to the bank during the work week. He then sent me a PayPal payment and requested that I ship the cue to someone with a different name, shipping address and phone number than the name, shipping address and phone number used in connection with our January 2011 transaction. I sent him an email about this this morning and got no reply. I just refunded his money in full via PayPal because PayPal offers no protection to sellers who ship when an unauthorized credit card charge is made. The guy has 100% positive feedback here on AZ and I know some of the folks here on AZ who have sold him a cue. Just wanted to give all a fair warning. Be careful when dealing with any buyer you don't know or who does not have a long history of postiive transactions who pays with PayPal. You are at risk of losing your money.

Not everyone in China is a CROOK, Not everyone in the USA is a CROOK, Not everyone who uses PAY PAL is a CROOK!

The moral of the story is... never ship anything that is paid for by Paypal to any address other than the one associated with the Paypal account from which you are receiving the funds.

I was going to ship to the address set forth in the email from PayPal. The problem is, all of the information was different than the last time I received a PayPal payment from the same PayPal account. Thus my belief that this is a scam.

I see... totally different situation altogether... and a suspicious one I would agree.

No question about. My point is be very careful when taking payments via PayPal from anyone who does not have a serious track record of doing business on the Net. I am convinced I just avoided a $3,000 plus scam.

Never take paypal from overseas unless it is someone you know and trust. There are no such things as confirmed addresses. Even if you ship it to the address on the paypal account, you can still lose. If you ship to anywhere overseas you need to go the way of WU or bank transfer. I got taken for a nice Schon, the money for the cue and the money it costume to ship it. Never again. Don't put yourself in the position to lose.

Agreed, 100 percent.

I have had a few cues sent to the POB I use for my rental unit in the next town over. Its not associated with my home addy.
Just did it to keep the peace. Wife only seen half my cues.

Maybe they moved. Was it a request to ship to someone else or did the name change on the account?
Either way cover yourself. Better to slow a transaction then to be taken.

I believe you did the right thing when decided not to ship the cue. However, I have to say that in a few countries, due to government policies, transfer money (USD) overseas is prohibited because those countries do not have enough dollar for trade with other countries (trade deficit, balance of payment, etc). Thus, the only payment method available is Paypal. Also, in some countries you can not have a confirmed/verified address.

Best,
Nam

Not everyone in China using paypal is a CROOK.
I have done 3 cues using paypal and ask buyer to send it to China, and they are all over $2K range, when my first deal i have no feedback at all and i willing to use paypal to pay for a $3K cue, I tell the seller i will take all the risk i send him a payment for service so i made my first deal on Az with paypal.
NO risk free buying and NO risk free selling.

Western union, postal money orders or Wire is the only way to go on overseas transactions. If someone wants the cue bad enough, they will find a way to make one of these payment options happen. If not, they are probably looking to scam you.

I almost always require wire transfers on out of the U.S. transactions unless I see that the person is a regular cue buyer here on AZ with numerous positive iTrader feedbacks from regular AZ sellers.

The AZ person has sent me an email explaining that for our first transaction, he was not in China to accept delivery of the cue and had me ship it to a buddy in a different city, thus the two different names, shipping addresses and phone numbers. I'm mulling over whether to complete the deal after he receives the PayPal refund.

I have had this happen a few times with DVDs, I believe people out there are out to get free stuff at small fries like ourselves expense. I will not ship out of the country unless its a confirmed address which seems to only be in Canada, anyplace else does not have confirmed addresses I believe so as subdude said, your not protected by Paypal and most times when your item leaves the country it cannot be tracked like here is the US. I refuse to ship outside of the US unless its a confirmed address or its someone on AZ with iTrader, what a pain to spend the money to ship the item, fill out customs forms, lose the item and the money, not worth my time.

i don't know...why everyone is seem too afraid to received money from paypal and ship to different address....

every transaction that i use paypal..i'm gonna email the seller to ship the stuff to diffrent address...because..i'm using my friend paypal account...i don't have any paypal account...i give the seller an option ....western union or paypal ( ship it to different address) and yet many seller will choose the paypal...

The reason people are afraid to ship to an unconfirmed address especially outside of the US is because of no protection from Paypal and no ability to track the package. Better to be safe then sorry.

i will teach you ...how to avoid a scam..

after you received paypal money from him...go to the bank and take the money.....after the money in your hand...you email the buyer and ask his address for shipping....very simple...

actually ...it is a buyer that always in a big risk.. So, normally i don't buy cue from second hand....i will looking for a good dealer or cuemaker...

Yes, it takes 3 days for the money to transfer to the bank, you can take it out but that does not stop a scammer from making a Paypal dispute and if the claim goes in that persons favor then your screwed, your Paypal account will be shutdown until the money is refunded. Most people do not take all there money out of the bank either so whatever you have in there might get taken from Paypal to recover the claim money. So under your scenario you would lose your Paypal account and have to open another bank account too.

Mike (and everyone else),

I am in China. Been here five years and I can be escrow for anyone who needs it. You can send the cue to me and I can forward it to the buyer once the seller has confirmed receipt of the funds.
