Be careful eBay has some security issues

Yesterday, when I checked my email account at Comcast, I discovered this:

Now I have been known to sleep walk, but this was to much!!!!!:D Hell, the items were listed by me from South Carolina, and I went to sleep in Washington State!!!!!:eek: :eek: :D

By the end of the morning five other auctions for other heavy equipment, had also been listed by me. I tried to go to my eBay account but I had been locked out and my password was useless. The only bright side to this day was that I was able to contact eBay, and the auctions were canceled, along with all the insertion fee's.

The bright side to this was, eBay was very proactive in handling the entire situation, and they were not difficult to contact. The negative side to this was that eBays system had to have been hacked, because I am very careful with my passwords, and I have a very good firewall that protects intrusion into my system. Also, all transactions are on the computer that I use for my business, and NO ONE has access to this computer except me.

When I confronted eBay with this information their response was very simple this is not an uncommon event. They also stated that user IDs, email addresses, and individual user passwords not used for financial transactions are kept on a Non-encrypted server separate from the encrypted server for financial transactions, THANK GOD!!!!!!

So to everyone here on AZ let me tell you this, if you have an eBay account check it everyday, until eBay corrects some of it's problems, anyone could have the next hijacked account!!!!!!

Glad all went well, but too me... eBay (and PayPal) are big scary companies.
 
well, don't get totally scared of ebay, our family has done literally hundreds of transactions with no problems or hacks or fake listings. It's a good company.

It's just that wherever there's tons of money trading hands, people will target a company to try to steal a slice. I heard there were 1200 IDs that got stolen, which probably isn't reasurring but they have something like 193,000,000 users.
 
I had a similar experience about a year ago. I was apparently in China and selling lots of very expensive motorcycles. They also got into my pay-pal account, and then into my bank accounts. It took about a month to get it all sorted out, but I was impressed how e-bay and pay-pal handled everything. It did give me a bit of a scare though, and I have been extra careful ever since. I hope it all turns out well for you.
 
Our son had this problem, but it hasn't happened to us, yet. Ebay took care of it. One suggestion, and Manwon, I'm not saying you do this, but make sure you log off when you leave Ebay. Not logging off can make your account accessable to someone else. They've been harping about this at school the last couple of semesters, too.

It actually sounds like you got phished and didn't know it.

Word to the wise: never click on an ebay link in an email. Especially for questions about items. Always go directly to your ebay login.

I had a similar problem twice this year so far, both involving listing fees for cars or expensive equipment. EBay resolved both issues quickly and credited any charges. They recommend you download the eBay toolbar for best security. It watches for fake eBay sites and warns you before you log in. It also notifies you if you leave eBay's site from a link in the listing. If you ever get a notice to redo your login, STOP IMMEDIATELY! You are about to provide some scumbag with your password if you continue. I now only access eBay from the "My eBay" toolbar button. So far, no more problems.

Now, I got an ol Allis Chamers tractor I might want to deal - orange paint has oxidized pretty much and some of it is held together with bent nails (no kidding):D
The wife is scared its going to tip over, and the brakes are a b----. The grandkids love it - sit up there and move the levers and turn the wheel.:) in hog heaven.

No Partner, eBay's system was hacked, like I said in my post above when I spoke to eBay they were aware that someone illegally entered their system. That is the purpose of this post eBay has some security issues.

That would be impossible, EBAY IS EVERYWHERE!!!!!!!!! AND THEY ARE ALWAYS WATCHING!!!!!:eek: :eek: :D

The purpose of my post was to note that users should be diligent in their efforts to avoid being phished.

The phishing for u/pw on ebay and paypal has gotten out of control. Some of the things I have seen recently include auctions on ebay where when you click the auction link (this is while surfing ebay) it takes you to a page that asks for u/pw. I have an autofill program I use (not the standard password fill on Explorer or Firefox but another password storing program called roboform). I went to hit the roboform button to autofill in the u/pw and it prompted me asking me if I wanted to add another pass since i was no longer on ebay. The auction page itself had javascript to redirect to a page that looks exactly like ebay and if you didnt look at the url (which was chosen of course to resemble the ebay url string) you would have been phished.

No offense Manwon but its far more likely you were phished then ebay had a server compromise that they accessed the u/pw databases. Its so much easier to phish for u/pw than break into the servers of ebay. Breaking in like you are thinking they did takes alot more effort, leaves alot more trails to follow and breaks alot more crimes.

I wish I had an email to prove what ebay told me , however, I communicated with them on live chat. From the conversation it sounded like many many people had the same problem at the same time.

yeah, phishing with the fake sites like ... I dunno, 'signing.ebay-payment.com' or whatever is very common, but from what I understand a handful of logins actually got hacked. It didn't make headline news (and that's good, because people would get unnecessarily freaked out over it. Ebay's awesome about how they handle fraud and it's really rare).
 
I have listed designer purses from Michigan while comfortably resting in New York. :D

I had to jump through hoops to get my account restored. Now my password is changed monthly.
