Becoming tired!!!!!!

I was wondering if anyone else has this problem. I practice everyday for about 5 plus hours and here lately I am having a tough time because I am getting tired and very very tense. It is effecting my practice because it seems like it is very hard to give 100 percent during practice. I am 21 and in very good shape but it seem like I have no energy lately.

Cut down on the practice time. Make it short and sweet. Then go out and play against competition.

Find your weak spots during that competition. Then that's what you'll practice again short and sweet.

It all has to be an equal balance. Most people I know are 1 part practice, 3 parts play in their recipe...

Are you playing by yourself? 5 hours alone is like 10 hours with another player. I suggest you take breaks and make sure your eating right. Carbs and sugar can really make you sleepy. And if you are playing alone try and get a game after for a few of those hours...
Fitness and stamina are no to be undervalued in this game.

Yea cuechick I do drink a few cokes a day but I drink water also. I try to run atleast 3 miles a week just enough to keep me in shape. I do play by myself and It is good practice. I usually shoot 20 - 30 racks of 15 ball rotation. And work on whatever weakness I find during those 20 - 30 racks. My back is very stiff so its getting hard to get over the balls with full concentration. I apprecitate the feedback thanks

Practice ....

First, most everything can be covered in 2 hours of practice.
Just playing games is more of a test of what you have learned.
Practice usually involves the 'parts' that makeup a total game.

Like, shooting different shots and going 3 rails for shape on the next ball.

like putting 2 balls on long rail, shooting the ball closest to corner
pocket, and figuring out how to get shape on the last ball, MORE
THAN 1 WAY. Then try it with 3 balls on long rail, and all the balls
have to go in the same pocket.
Learning how to shoot low follow shots, and where it goes.

Practice various kick shots.

Practice varioius banks shots, 1-4 rails.

Practice long on the end rail cut shots, and get shape on next
ball.

Practice the 'pieces' until you feel good about them, then practice a
whole game, putting them all to work for you. Then get a better player
to watch you, break, and then tell him what your out order is, and why.
Let him then tell you if he would do the same, or different, and why he
would do it different.

You have to crawl before you walk. It has been proven in Scientific
studies that children that walk without learning to crawl first have
trouble with running later on. Children that crawl good before walking
progress faster and better, and have more confidence.

Just food for thought. Good luck with your tournament.

I was in a practice slump not too long ago and I am a practice nut. I found that you have to take time off and do something else once in a while. If you don't take a break, it will wear you down. So make sure you give yourself the break you need physically and mentally from the game and when you come back your focus will be sharp like you know it should be.

Also, be sure to have fun with the game too. When you are really trying to play tough, that is one thing. But every so often, you need to take time to just have fun playing without criticizing yourself so much. It will make the world a difference in your attitude toward the game.

Good Luck

Are you sure it's your physical stamina that's the problem? It might well be your mental/psychological stamina. One way to build mental stamina, and it was Jose Parica that once told me this, is to play ahead sets (such as ten ahead). It wil help you to pace yourself psychologically if you play a match of indeterminate length.

Ok thanks guys I will put the theory to test. I went back to practice and finished my 30 racks of rotation. In the first 10 racks I ran 2 racks but I then had trouble running 4 or 5 balls because I was losing my concentration. Nothing makes me more angry than getting over a ball and just shooting it without consciously aiming at it. I have learned not to get to mad though. I know that I can make the balls but must put a mental effort to do so. I have played for about 4 hours today but want to get in atleast 5 to 6 hours today. The table I play on is a super tight 9 ft brunswick with 3 and 7/8" pockets. Sometimes I think that those pockets are what tire me out because you must stay in perfect line on every shot because cheating the pocket or forcing balls to get the glance angle just is not an option.

Charlie, you have just disclosed the main problem for your getting tired.

I too used to play exclusively on super-tight pocketed Diamond Tables and would play for numerous hours. It would exhaust me and my practice partner.

We switched to GC IV tables with fairly generous pockets and felt our energy rocket. We also played better for longer periods of time.

Sure most people can play on tight pocketed tables for a short duration but the mental energy that it takes to do it continuously soon bankrupts your ability to concentrate.

In my opinion, you should shorten practice time on the tight pocketed table and move most of your practice time to a 4 1/2" pocketed table. Play no more than one hour on the tight pocketed table per day.

BTW, you can't learn all the things you need to know on a 3 7/8" pocketed table.

Congratulations you are normal.being 21 you have ALOT of energy and can recuperate faster than someone over 35.however you have hit a wall.now you must recogonize to back off and relax some..that tenseness you are describing is a sign of pushing too much.your body and mind is asking/pleading/demanding for a break.take a few days off NO POOL .do some work around the house take in a movie ect.but you must stray from your normal routine a bit...after a few days you will feel much better..good luck.

Drink plenty of water and stay away from things like coke. If you want you can have somethng like a seltzer with a little lime of lemon juce, it will kill that craving for cola drinks and is better for you anyway. I haven't had a soda in like 20 years thats bad stuff.

Thanks guys. I kinda took it easy tonight. I shot 25 racks of rotation and then did the joe tucker 10 ball rating game. I shot a 70 at it so thats not to bad. I may be pushing myself hard but if I dont push myself then I will never know what I am truely capable of. cuejoey thanks for the advice you always post great responses. Tommorow I WILL change my practice routine that may have alot to do with it.

CHARLIE,

oh yea another thing that I know helps because I have already done this is to go swimming or play some basketball. Anything that gets your muscles doing something else beside bending over the green monster
