Behavioral Conduct at USBA Tournaments...Future of the Sport?

Good stuff!

I have to say I like the comments made here by Dennis Dieckman. His tell it like it is attitude suits me just fine! I'd much rather know where someone stands on issues rather than guess. Hope to get to meet you one of these fine days sir. I play at Chris's if your going to be in the area at some future date please send a PM.

Aw shucks......despite my flaws I always TRY to do what I think is the right thing....usually failing miserably.

Or another way to put it!!!

Honestly, I am looking forward to the prospect of having DD at the helm. I think such a dynamic and different person as he is going to affect some major change to carom billiards domestically, regardless of how Sharm spells his name.

Peter Falk

I was at the 1964 Worlds 14.1 Tourney at the Commodore in NYC when Tommy DeSantis brought Peter up to me in the Bleachers. He said to me I told Peter no one knows straight pool as good as you. Could you explain what the players are doing to Peter.

I tried to but Peters handicap made it impossible to explain without interrupting the players. He didn't want to go out in the Practice room. that was the end of that. Butch

Tiger Woods

Tiger needs Marshalls to hold up the Please be Quiet Signs. Too Much Noise and your on your way out of the Tourney. It seems Golfers can't concentrate.

I'm a lout. And what's worse, I have a pool player's stroke with a love of billiards.

Dieckman was the first, and one of the very few, who took the time to help me understand proper conduct as a player or spectator of billiards. This may sound ironic for you, given that you were offended by his conduct, but he has labored to understand the subtleties of good behavior in billiards.

I watched a patron trying to savor the "excitement" of the moment snap a flash in Roland Forthomme's face as he shot for the final win of the SLIO. I have heard ring tones during tense pivotal moments in matches.

For a guy like me, it may not matter, but for a champion who has flown here from Europe, it is, in my opinion, a big deal.

Ashby is a masterful player and American national champion, but I am no closer to wielding his tact than I am his cue. Busting the balls of another national champion after he has asked for quiet is not appropriate for just anyone to do. Don't play with the master's tools, you'll just cut yourself.

Dieckman wants you to behave appropriately and he will speak out to let you know when you fall short of the mark. I am grateful for his concern and a better fan for it. I was so embarrassed to be there when that flash went off. Embarrassed even to be American.

Maybe I'm the one with issues, but I can't agree with your call to relax the expectations of conduct just to broaden the games appeal to its fans in this country. I deeply respect your "awe" at an artful shot...I feel it too...but I want to represent myself honorably. Take a cue from Dieckman in more ways than one and you too may be better for it.

From just another lout with an opinion. Take it or leave it.

Did anyone see Roland Forthomme (from belgium) last year at the Sang lee international?he was playing a shot and one of the audience flash him with the camera,So Roland went crazy and came up to the guy saying to him* i will kill you.Of course he didn't mean it .
We Still human being and we all do mistake,we need to educate more the audience and respect them, Because without them, there is nO BILLIARD!!!
Again Not only In Billiard, but also with Golf ,TIGER WOOD went crazy against one of the public playing with his cell in the background.
We don't need to complain! But it won't take that long to tell everybody in the tournament,NO CELL AND NO FLASH LIGHT!
Enjoy the link below and listen to the audience in the background !

A Moment of Satori.....

:deadhorse::deadhorse::deadhorse:
I hate to beat a dead horse but I just had a revelation about this whole sordid thread that the original poster, 3CushionKing started. FIRST OF ALL, who is the REAL King of Billiards ?? I would suggest it is still Sir Raymond Ceulemans, but then he is just a Knight, Knighted by his King, the King of The Belgian's, not some self proclaimed king on AZ.

So even Sir Raymond could not call himself 3CushionKing on AZ, just simply 3CushionKnight. So I would suggest to 3CushionKing that he change his AZ Handle to something like 3CushionPawn or 3CushionNeophyte or something, anything than the King. For after all, is not Elvis still the only real KING ??????

Quote from OP:
"The Olhausen Open was my 1st National Tourney I've attended, and loved every second of it. I was there 14 hrs a day and could of stayed another 10. I love the quietness, the soft classical music and of course the etiquette involved. BUT, we need to LOOSEN UP!"

Hey King, I was the loose one [maybe even a cannon] , I let it all hang out........some day we will meet again, have a beer together and laugh about all this silliness. Welcome to the world of caroms.....you have no clue what you are getting into....should you stick around your life will be ruined, trust me. Get out now while you still can......definitely ask for your membership dues back and give them to some poor homeless person you find on the the street, it will be money well spent, and you will probably feel a lot better in the long run. Hope to see you sometime in the future when we are both in a better mood.

Cheers!!!!!
