I dont understand how you can not bend over and step in both?? wut would you do get in stance then look at your shot and then bend over??? makes no sense to me, maybe Im lost. when you see your shot how do you not (align yer body) step into stance and bend over the cue?

I was just about to start a thread on stance when I found this.

I think that I do both depending on where the cb is located on the table and have never worried about it over the last 30yrs of play. Now that I am playing with players, that if you miss a shot the game is over,
I am trying to remove some of my bad habits that can cause an error.

I have noticed lately that I have a completely different stance depending on which way I start out. I am wanting to get more consistent with my stance so could someone give a good step by step on how they set up consistently.

Thanks

I could be wrong but I 'Think' he meant to ask if you step in 'towards' the shot/table or , more or less , not.

Meaning I see many people who start close to the table and either step away from the table with thier back foot or kinda just squat down without setting thier feet anywhere specific.

The bending part is pretty much required in all cases I think. ;)

To clarify my case , I do more of a snooker kinda thing I suppose. I line up the shot using my cue for alignment from my hip to the CB. I then lean into the table and then put my off foot more outwards then forward. Maybe at 10 o clock. It's a pretty open stance that makes me feel like I have more room to swing freely with my back arm just hanging straight down and fairly loosely.

That's where I ended up after purposely decieding a solid , consistant pre-shot routine was definately beneficial to my game and it seems to work for me.

I use the length of the cue, behind the cue ball,(right foot goes directly under the butt of thr cue) and step in and down. keeps eyes, body in aligment. I like upright snooker stance as well. Give him (credit for giving the weight) to get the match, action going-seems he needs more pract. under pressure, his steel balls from the internet- were hollow. Most guys make the women play even, they all need a handicap in my opionon. thanks for the free-shot action report guys(12 people watching all at one time. thanks thanks thanks jcin. mark

Took the words right out of my mouth.

Let's be honest here. I think the majority of amateur recreational players do neither. The most common approach to the shot is to slide from the side. It ain't good technique, but it's common.

Fred <~~~ honestly bad technique

Hello,

I think to bend means that your foot position is pretty well set in the standing position and then you just, bend. Stepping in to me is when you fall into your foot position. This is the best way for me to achieve alignment, my body and sighting are set in the standing position and when stepping into the shot nothing deviates from the aiming line.

As others have said, it's not two different things. You have to step in before you can shoot; how else will you get to the table, crawling? So stepping in is not a choice, it's how you get to the table.

Some players approach the shot from the side when they move from one shot to the next. This complicates getting into a good alignment.

Stepping into the shot allows the shooter to land on the line of aim, like a plane on a runway, that aids getting into proper alignment.

I think he means do you line up standing first and then just step in. I am a snooker player so my body is lined up to the shot before I bend over.

exactly what i mean. just bumping because i clarified the first post in case some didn't get it

Alignment

I step in, bend over, make any alignment adjustments if necessary, pre-shot routine, and shoot.
