Bender's Joint Screw

joint screw dimensinons

The screw is a 3/8-12. Most cuemakers or repairmen should be able to make you a set of protectors.

My mistake, it is indeed 3/8-14.

3/8-14 it is. Most cuemakers or repairmen should be able to make you a set of protectors, but the question is, will they.

Are you implying that they shouldn't? If so, why not?

JP's

I can make them in Black or White Delrin.
You can choose your own design on the sides.
Can make them with wood, add collars.
My indexing head cannot index 5, which is Mike's favorite style.

The poster I quoted, in my opinion, was assuming that making joint protectors for any cue was a usual course of business for "most" cuemakers and cue repairmen. Now, I may be mistaken, but I don't know that statement to be true. That's all. It's not that I feel that they shouldn't, I just think that with the precious time we have, joint protectors are not tops on the list. I could be wrong.

Yeah, that's true.... I hate making joint protectors. :D

It's not that I hate making joint protectors, it's just to time consuming. I have a lot of equipment for building cues. Many lathes and machines are dedicated to one operation so as to eliminate set-up time. I have nothing set up for joint protectors. I can build a shaft in about 15 or 20 more minutes of time and maybe 6.00 or 8.00 more dollars in material. I'll get 125.00 for the shaft, just how much can I charge for one joint protector? When I first started using a Radial pin, joint protectors for that size were hard to find and expensive. I started buying the plastic ones you often see on e-bay and such and include them with all of my cues. I engrave my initials in the top of the protectors which makes them a little unique plus a little advertising. If someone still wants custom I tell them why I don't like making them but if the insist then I'll make them but I charge accordingly.
