Best 14.1 ball in hand break shot?

I think Gerry meant he's averaging 50 / run, which is still macka-dacka, imo.

thanx Spidey,

what I have been doing is hitting a few racks to warm up, then set up a breaker, and take my 5 tries.

today went like this.

1>38
2>67
3>11
4>77
5>28

221 for 5 racks....ave...45. whatever.

not world speed, but my table plays nasty tough. 9 foot GC4 with 4-3/8th" pockets.....AND I am lazy about cleaning everything...I should listen to schmitty about keeping the balls clean!

My biggest issue is I never get to play on DIamond tables. The pockets are just like mine, so it should be good.

back to practicing,

G.

The best average ever posted at the Derby City 14.1 was about 60. One year Hohmann didn't get past 50. I think at the SBE you get the highest in 5 tries for your qualification score, and that makes a player's best average higher, but if you average 45, I think you're pretty sure to get through on your best set.

Lou...I learned, and practiced the full rack 14.1 break, where you bank the corner ball back into the corner pocket at the head end of the table almost 40 years ago. Mosconi played that shot very well, and with practice it is not difficult. I made it 3x in a row earlier today, practicing on a tight pocket 9' GC.

Well, I don't know what Nuff did or didn't say... but Mosconi's favorite, and the one he used to warm up before his exhibitions (at least the ones I saw) was the traditional back cut, from the left side of the stack. His was maybe a little steeper than us mere mortals would prefer.

I'm sure the amateurs amongst us would prefer the comfort of the side pocket break :-)

Take break ball and cue ball in hand. Put them wherever you want them. Rack the other 14 balls. Now play an inning of 14.1 until you miss (or foul). Do this five times in a row. Add up the total number of balls you pocketed in the five attempts.

250 in five tries is pretty damn good! I'm actually a bit curious what a top 14.1 player would average. I can't imagine it would be very much higher but I could be wrong.

and there is the answer to my question. I guess it pays to read ahead.
