Best 8 Ball book?

R. Given's 8-ball Bible is considered by many to be the de-facto standard for 8-ball, especially on the barbox:

I will second the Schwartz book. Can't go wrong with Capelle either.

The book path is always good and the Schwartz book is excellent, however, the best path (imo) is always to watch the worlds best players play IN A TOURNAMENT SITUATION WITH COMMENTARY!
The ACCU-STATS, round robin 8-ball invitational series, viewed complete, can provide a world class course in HOW TO PLAY the game of 8-ball correctly. In that tournament the worlds elite ball movers ARE playing 8-ball to perfection, with expert explanations of shot selection and why, in the commentary, from the like's of Incardona and Schwartz. That's the kind of instruction that can make ANY level player, a much better 8-baller with very little expense and study! Best of luck with your educational search!

Puke. I have read this book, and others as well.
The Eight Ball Bible is undoubtably the best. Teaches strategy like never before, HOW and WHY to perform shots in different situations. It covers dead zones (has Capelle ever heard of them?). As a bonus, it throws in systems like how to bank. Well worth the money.

I regret the above declaration since I havent even read any other 8 ball books. Plus i made kind of an outrageous claim (which I have since deleted and removed) that was probably demeaning to the other 8 ball book authors. Phil Capelle took offense and rightly so. It is my understanding that he has a great line of instructional books. I still stand behind Randi's Eight Ball Bible as a terrific instructional tome, but he aint the only guy on the block.

Play Your Best Pool and Play Your Best 8 Ball I highly recommend (both by Phil Capelle).
The Play Your Best Pool has both 8ball, 9ball, and mental help in one large book with lots of diagrams.
I can say without a doubt my 8ball game is as good as it is because of that book!

I have a 1st Edition, signed '8 Ball Bible'....love it! Learning shot safety broke my game out!! While written more 7ft barbox specific...there is still a ton of info that can be gleaned to apply while playing on an 8 or 9 ft table.

The 8 ball bible is geared toward bar table 8 ball. Most of the discussion is applicable to 8 ball on full sized tables.
You can't go wrong with any Capelle book. The Schwarz book is really a booklet. Not nearly as comprehensive as the other two, but you should consider getting it in addition to one or both the other books mentioned here.
