I'm working with a young boy that is 15 years old and plays very good 9 ball bank pool. He has to learn more 1 rail banks and also 2, 3 and 4 rail banks. Would some of you please let me know which books or videos you feel are the best to help this young boy learn bank pool.

I'm thinking about buying "Banking With The Beard" by the Beard.

Thanks for your help.

Banking with the Beard and the Gospool are both good books. Freddy's DVD's are good too as is the John Brumback banking video.

John Brumbacks 2 videos.

CJ Wileys T.I.P.S banking video.

Freddy the Beard has 2 videos as well.

Grady Mathews has some good stuff too.

All good choices, but the best choice, imo, is working with someone who can physically demonstrate the banks, and teach the young player the ins and outs. If the young player in question lives in MI, he should contact Bossman69 (my friend, Lance Cowles) here, and go get a lesson or two. Lance knows his stuff and the kid could learn a lot. If the OP is interested, he can PM me for Lance's phone number.

Darn it...must agree.

Practice is the best teacher. Trial and error. I would also make sure every other aspect of my game is good to go before moving on to banks and kicks.

jburkm002...Trial & error is okay, once you learn the "in's & out's" of banking. A lesson or two with someone qualified to teach banks gets you on the right track, so that the 'trial & error' period isn't so long and arduous. Of course, you still have to put in the practice time on the table. This is why I recommended working with Bossman69...since the young man apparently lives in MI.

I think 99 Critical Shots by Ray Martin is the best beginners book out there....
It's easy to read, great illustrations, and covers everything from the basics to advanced level for the player...

As far as video, I'm thinking that Jerry Brieseth (not sure how to spell it)...produced an excellent dvd on how to play...

The both cover banks, so, I'm thinking basics and fundamentals won't hurt a thing...and then banks...

anyhow, 2 cents...

jwe711...Read the original post in this thread. The kid is NOT a beginner. He is someone who already plays pretty well, and wants to learn how to bank better, and play bank games. He's ripe for some good instruction...which is easily available, if he chooses.

I'm sorry to say the boy does not live in Michigan. I'll try to find a good A player that banks well to help him here. I will also buy some videos when my wife and I get back to America.

Many thanks to all of you for your help. I can't thank you enough. Shoot well my friends.
