Can i get like the top 5 around ?
For the past 3-4 years ive been using a cheap jump/break and im growing tired of it, and i have a normal jump cue now. So i was thinking of getting a break cue. I will probably be trying out a few of the top ones.

I appreciate any help.

(i do not want or need a jump/break combo)

Best of anything is like Beauty it is in each person own eyes, or taste.

I see lots of people are using the Predator Break Cues.

Also the other thing is weight, some like Light and Fast other prefers Heavy and the Slower Big Boom Breaker.

Than there is the discussion about BREAK TIPS.

Top rated break cues then :)

Just want some examples of things to try out over the next week or so.

Thank you !

1. BK2
2. Any Mezz Break Cue all super ( I really like the short one they make)
3. Sledgehammer

My rating is directly related to how well I'm breaking at any particular moment.

Platinum BIlliards did a test using a robot that could simulate exact stoke speeds using 20+ types of break cues.

Here's a link.
I've seen that before, and one thing I've noticed is that there isn't a single J&J cue (j/b or plain break) cue on there anywhere. :scratchhead: They're very popular, I see tons of posts where people say "get a J&J, they're the best bang for the buck", etc. I'd like to know how they stack up in that list.

I know you mentioned you don't want or need a jump/break combo, but I gotta tell ya, I like the Fury JB series:

http://fury-cues.com/pool-cues-fury-series.asp?SortID=6

I personally have the JB-RW, and can attest to the jump portion of the combo. In fact, using the jump portion of the JB-RW's jump/break combo, I can successfully jump a full ball obstruction from only two cue-ball widths away, using highly-elevated dart grip (using the full jump portion -- not just the shaft).

There is one proviso or caveat, however. I absolutely do not like the carbon-graphite ferrule/tip. When I first got my JB-RW, when I'd use it as a break cue, the ferrule/tip would symmetrically mushroom after only a week (no kidding!). My trusted local cue luthier would cut-off the deformed portion and re-shape it, but again, after a week, it'd mushroom again. I finally had him cut the graphite ferrule completely off (i.e. shave it down to the tenon) on his lathe, and he replaced it with a genuine Phenolic tip. That was almost two years ago, and I'd never had a problem with mushrooming or deformation since. Also, a very nice side effect I discovered was that my jumping ability with the jump portion of the jump/break combo was improved -- it seems even "livelier."

Anyway, I thought I'd throw that out there even though you mentioned wanting a dedicated jump cue.

EDIT: gosh -- I need coffee! Here I am, touting the jump abilities of the Fury JB series, when Richardson plainly stated that he already had a dedicated jump cue, and was looking for a break cue. <thumps own head a few times, emitting a hollow sound> :D Anyways, the proviso/caveat described above still applies; the Fury JB series is a very fast/powerful break cue as well as a great jump cue. If you replace that &^%$#@ graphite ferrule/tip with a genuine Phenolic, I'm sure the JB series would perform even better(!) on that Platinum Billiards speed ratings site -- in my humble opinion, anyway.

Hope this is helpful,
-Sean

Yeah, I would guess that's relative to cost. J&J is what $50-60 where a BK2 is $250+ and can't imagine a BK2 is 5-6x better but it 5-6x more expensive, nothing is 5-6x better. So yeah, no brainer in the bang for the buck category... without money being a large factor in the decision, there's no question. It's the BK2.

THANK you for that website, thats extremly great to have, i wonder if they changed any numbers a bit so accomidate the cues they have for sale? lol

I use a OMEN Grey Ghost and I wouldnt put it down for ANY other B/J unless it was stolen. Mace by Rick Howard is also a great choice. Good luck in your search...

I sold my Rick Howard a few months after getting the BK2. And the guy that bought that even wanted me to sell him my BK2 instead! Best break cue ever.

I believe that the break depends more on the rack being tight then on the break cue.The tighter the rack, the better the transfer of energy to disperse the balls upon impact.
J&J is a great break cue and less then $60.00.Try to get one that is close to straight. Unfortunately, Carl's Pool Room has a "no jump" rule so I cannot comment on that aspect of the cue.
