best celebrity players?

I've of course heard that Jackie Gleason was a good player, and that Paul Newman gained some skills during filming of "the Hustler". I also heard that Peter Faulk enjoyed playing and his Columbo character always seemed to notice when the villian du jour had a table in his home. Are there many other notables from hollywood, politics or sports that knew their way around a table? There's a whole world of billiard experience on this forum so if anyone knows, you guys must. Just out of curiousity, who are (or were) the best?

I saw that Joe Rogan hitting balls at Hollywood Billiards at the tail end of the Swanee tournament. He looks like he can play well.

There's a pic on the justiscases website of a case made for Tony Stewart...

Don't know if he's any good though, but it earned him a little more respect from me(die hard drag racer) knowing he at least shoots pool.

Celebrity players

Paul Sorvino is reported to be a good player. Paul, if you're out there how about producing a quality movie - not just a hustler profile, but a quality movie with good character development and plenty of guality pool action with professionals.

When I ordered my Justis case, Jack told me that Tony Stewart and Shannon Daulton are friends. Shannon bought the case for Tony as a gift.
So, yeah...I'd surmise that Tony Stewart is a darned good pool player, who wouldn't be with Shannon Daulton as a teacher???

Another, from watching TV...Nora Jones, the singer. Seems she searches out pool halls in whatever town she is appearing in. So, if she's appearing in your town, keep your eyes open.

When I first met Sorvino, I said, "Hey, that's a beautiful cue", having taken notice in this beautiful Meucci he was using. At this point he was getting ready to leave and he said to me, "So how do I play?" and I replied, "Hey, that's a beautiful cue!"

Boy wouldn't that be nice, first step, don't have an absolutely stupid title like "Poolhall Junkies".

lol. Very clever and diplomatic. :)

Sorvino

Actually, there's a clip on You Tube showing Sorvino playing Immomen. Pretty decent play, although picture quality is fairly dark.

I don't know about that, but he might make a pretty good "Fatman" in a Hustler remake. Ed Norton as Fast Eddie or he gotten too old.

Mark Twain, although I guess that's a little too early for this discussion......

A Mark Twain letter:

Redding, Connecticut,
Oct. 2, '08.
Dear Mrs. Patterson, -- The contents of your letter are very pleasant and very welcome, and I thank you for them, sincerely. If I can find a photograph of my "Tammany" and her kittens, I will enclose it in this. One of them likes to be crammed into a corner-pocket of the billiard table -- which he fits as snugly as does a finger in a glove and then he watches the game (and obstructs it) by the hour, and spoils many a shot by putting out his paw and changing the direction of a passing ball. Whenever a ball is in his arms, or so close to him that it cannot be played upon without risk of hurting him, the player is privileged to remove it to anyone of the 3 spots that chances to be vacant.

Ah, no, my lecturing days are over for good and all.

Sincerely yours,
S. L. Clemens

He just might be one of the funniest people ever. Seriously, if you get the chance you should read his letters. Many can be found online.

Actually here are 2 fitting anagrams for Actionhound:

A Coin Do Hunt
Handout Icon (ding, ding, ding ... we have a winner)
