SJM, many thanks from both me and my friend, Paul.

The best cue made, no one really knows. It's just our opinions that seperate us.
We all see this statement over and again,
which cue hits the best.
This can only be answered with one persons opinion. Yours.
Is it a fair question? Yes or No.

No it's not, because we all see things differantly, with again, our "OWN" personal "OPINIONS", about anything in our lives.

If you want an opinion ask away, however if you want a real answer, try a cue yourself.

What it all boils down to, is how you PERSONALLY feel about a cue, car, a pair of shoes, a women, and or life in general.
Everyone elses opinion does not count in the long haul.Personal preferances, is where it's at.
Just my OPINION, guys.

I was wondering how cues get a following and or a reputation as being the best?

In the 60's, 70's & 80's Balabushka, Gus Szamboti, Rambow & Martin were recognized as being the best. There were not that many cuemakers back then, yet Balabushka & Gus Szamboti still carry that distinction as being one of the Best if not the best to this day.

Pros such as Rodney Morris & Kim Davenport still play with a Szamboti.

Now on this forum all the talk is about Skip Weston, Gilbert, Paul Fanelli, Jack Madden, Webb, Murray Tucker, etc. Is this because the common working man can afford them? Are they that good or is it that they are available?

What about Ginacue, Cognoscenti, Tascarella, Barry Szamboti, Southwest, Black Boar, Paul Mottey, Tad, etc. These cuemakers have been around for a while, Ginacue since the 60's. Are they not talked about due to the long wait time if you want one of their cues. Is the cost of their cues another contributing factor? Some are not even taking orders at this time.

I know it is all selective and personal to each individual as to what is the best feeling cue. We are all different. I guess there may be even a bad Balabushka or Gus Szamboti out there. If there is I'll take it. :)

What I would like to know is if everyone had a choice of any of the cuemakers what cue would they pick for playability? I am talking just a solid hit, good feel with stiff shaft. Inlays are not important for playability. I know Southwest had that distinction in the mid 80's and early 90's.

What cue would it be today?

Thanks

Did you think for a second he was serious?

Southwest or of course a Gilbert. Both are nice to have and both have playability. Just shot with a Southwest this past weekend, and I loved it. Of course there are hundreds of cues that I haven't hit with. I am just talking about my own experiences with these particular cues.

since Rodney is a "Fury" sponsored pro, Surely he's playing with a Fury cue (at least when he makes it to a TV round of competition),,,LOL

Since the cost of women came into this thread I think cues are about the same as women. Unless the cue is very crappy anyone that I am playing with at the time feels good. Some may have a wider butt, too heavy or too light. Some look nicer than others. Get one that feels right to you. No matter how much you pay for the cue it will not make you play better.

Yeh, but thinking back that you did it with a drop dead gorgeous woman and picturing the memory instead of a nasty ass ugly bitch sure makes you FEEL a lot better, even if it does lighten the wallet some. I think a beautiful woman and a beautiful cue should be able to do the same thing...bring "BIG MURPH" to attention every time you feast your eyes on them. Nothing like a good woody.....

The best cue I have played with so far and I have played with a few has definately got to be the stinger and after playing with it I liked it so much that I bought the b/j cue and the playing cue which should be here on wednesday.

In my mind, the best cue is the one you perform best with... It may not be the most beautiful or handsome cue, but by golly, it makes the cue ball sing and helps you run balls...

That being said, where does one come across such an instrument?

Who knows... ?

While I've shot with many different cues, custom and otherwise, including Southwest and Scruggs and Bender and Cognoscenti and others, and production cues too, of course, I think that the key to finding out what works best for a particular person involves experimentation -- which need not be costly -- to find out what they really like.

In my case, without mentioning any cuemakers or brand names, I'll tell you I like a cue that has a very solid, stiff hit, that sends the "right kind" of vibrations back to your hand, that is flexible enough to juice the cue ball out of the corners like a good Meucci will do, that is balanced adequately so that you don't really feel the weight of the shaft if you shoot with an open bridge, that is sensitive when you wish to feel the hit of a distant stop shot, or make you thrill when shooting a force follow... And make you absolutely shout "Yeahhhhh" !!! when a real toughie force follow with english makes your opponent's jaw drop...

Where do you find a cue like this?

I don't think you'll "find" it anywhere... you'll need to create it, or modify an existing cue that will give you the elements to produce this...

If anyone on here knows of a cuemaker that has something like this, please fill me in....

Cheers!

Flex

I'm saving up for one of those cuetechs that has the hologram sticker inlays. Talk about a masterpiece, I tremble at the thought of such magnificent work.
