Best cue combo?

Well hello and thank you for having a great billiard oriented community. This is my first post but I have floated around here for a while now. I have been playing pool for 17 years now and I have played aggresivly for 5 years.

Currently I play with an OB-2 shaft on a Joss butt and break and jump with an Action. I have realized though that im due for an upgrade. You always hear its not the arrow but its the indian. I do agree that the player is the main component but with the proper equipment I think it can make the game easier.

So.... Which manufactured cue's are the best?
I like the Jerico stinger and the Mcdermott sledge hammer for the best break jump cue.
I also like the OB-2 shaft for best shaft.
I also like the MEZZ power break cues for best break cues.

yes I know the Efren Reyes Walmart cue story and for those that argue having a better cue isnt necessary, well I can drive my car with my feet if I want to. That doesnt make it a good idea!

Thanks for your input and hello again from Action Alex!

GL on your adventure for a new cue! I've always thought, at least for those of us on limited budgets, that an investment in a new stick is a sort of milestone in our experience of the sport--even if you have been playing long. Plus, the sense of pride and excitement is always nice.

Since you are a very familiar with the OB family, I would strongly recommend sticking with that to maintain the understanding of your top game. I play with a modified OB-1, and after trying an OB-2, it's definately the next step up for myself. The playability is so damn close, the stiffer hit and taper only boosts my confidence on the thin cuts/inside english/power stroke. If you can get a custom, try an OB-2 blank and get matching ringwork through a cuemaker. All of the performance and something that's uniquely yours.

And funny you mention the Mezz, 'cause that's something I've been really lusting for. I break with a J&J J/B that is just a beast, but it's really beat up, the ferrule's gone to hell.

So, my 2 cents say get a new/used custom in your budget, get a OB-2 blank fit with matching ringwork, and a Mezz Power Break II!

Don't break the bank for it, even if it means saving a little more if you want to get something a bit more expensive. All the same, make it your own, and go play play play.

Welcome to AzBilliards.

RB25 or 26? NA or TT?...lol

I just read your member name. A couple 240's and an FC3S later, I'm out of that game....

Drifting is expensive.

I had an RB25DET. Alas she was not that stable. I have a 98 kouki 240. I love her she has 175k on the chassis and the original motor still runs strong.

So any other input here?

for those that argue having a better cue isnt necessary, well I can drive my car with my feet if I want to. That doesnt make it a good idea!

Alex!

Bad analogy if you ask me. Better would be that you could drive your Buick or drive your Cadillac. Both would get you to where you are going without a problem, but it is which one you like and feel more comfortable with. If you like bells and whistles and spending money on them, then its your call as to personal preference. If you are looking for something collectible thats still another story.

BTW if you are going to drive your car with your feet, remember the most important difference is what type sneaker you are wearing. Same with cue stick IMO, its the tip, the taper, and the personal preference to same. :)

I have a 125 dollar sneaky pete with a Le Pro tip that plays just fine. No diamond inlays, no mother of pearl jewels, and no power windows either.

Its all personal preference and hypnotics. Yep, if you think it plays better for you then it probably will.

I do believe the shooter makes the shot not the cue. All though I do believe in investing in a LD shaft for anyone out there. Its just common sense to use a stick that deflects less. If stick A causes you to aim 2 inches off line when applying a tip and a half of english, and stick B causes you to aim off line only an inch to apply the same tip and a half of english, then you just cut your margin in error in half with the LD shaft for aiming shots with english!!! To me its common sense to use a shaft that reduces your margin of error, especially in Billiards where playing the game well is all about minimizing your margin of error (i.e. position, shot making, safes...)

That being said. I personally use a red mcdermott with an OB 1 shaft. The shaft was more expensive then the mcdermott! Would I like to have something better looking and supposedly plays better, sure. Is it needed, absolutely not. This is how I feel and I do believe there might be some truth to that Efren and cheap cue story.

Well I have a freind who plays with a players cue and I used to play with one that hit okay but there is no way the shaft has the quality of my Joss. I am on order for an OB-2 shaft and I want a mezz breaker and a predator air jumper. If Im good why wouldnt I want to use quality materials? I agree that a low deflection shaft is a good idea to make movement around the table easier but not so much that it decreases your margine of error. I just think that at my level I can definitly do more with a shaft that has a smaller diameter and less deflection as well as a longer tapper. It is definitly a matter of comfort to make me a better shooter.

If you want a good cue BUY a Schuler!!!!!!

but I think that if you mix any Schon Butt with a Predator Shaft 314-2 the hit is very good.

I think it's best if you develop your skill and figure out what aspects of a cue you like and dislike.

<-----Thinks you should get a Schuler!!!!
