Best cue for sweaty palms?

I was born with hyperhidrosis a condition where a person sweats alot. I have them in my hands and I find as the game progresses i lose accuracy in my stroke because the butt of the cue gets slippery.

I was wondering what kind of cue anyone could recommend me?

I've been looking at Lucasi Hybrid, Predator Sport Cue, because of the rubberized grips.

I use to own a cue with irish linen, leather, these were no good for me.

Is there anyone else here that has experienced extremely sweaty palms? Please tell me your story.

I would think that a wrapless cue and hand towel would be the best option for this, but maybe a cork wrap would work for you?

Maybe a rough leather like elephant ear? I have an elephant wrapped cue and it is very grippy without having the terrible feel of those rubber wraps.

Ever since I switched to a wrapless cue I haven't had any problems at all with sweaty palms. I sweat a lot too and always used a linen wrap before. I would try a wrapless for sure. It should solve your problem.

I don't sweat much, but always felt the best grip was with a wrap-less cue as has already been mentioned. And its the easiest to try out, just grab a house cue off the wall.

If a wrap of some type ends up being the solution, you might want to look into having it extend all the way to the butt cap like some break cues.

Cork was mentioned already, might be worth a try.

There are other exotic wraps that might work. Mind you I am not recommending them as I have no experience with them. But I do see comments that they feel very different from material to material. How about shark, stingray, kangaroo, or beaver? The guy that runs this website is well respected around here (I believe his name is Martin). He might be able to give you more info on how these would deal with sweat.

And, just thinking outside the box here, you could try a glove on your bridge hand, such as a batter's glove, à la Earl "the Burl" Strickland.

Good luck

Try a 3 cushion rubber roll on wrap. They are about $2 to $4 and you can put them on any cue. They offer an extremely tacky grip.

I wonder if sweaty palm guys need something that's more absorbent such as cork, not so much tacky. If tacky was the solution, then "wrap-less" should work. With that said, it might be worth a try, especially at only $2 to $4.

Now, since he didn't already know to try this, I'll bet the next question would be, "where can I find this?"

And here is the answer:) I just found a place that sells them:

https://www.seyberts.com/products/Rubber_Pool_Cue_Grip-142-76.html

Make sure if you buy one you watch the video on the linked page on how to install them. Otherwise, you will never be able to put one on. They are not intuitive at all. I played with them for several years, and really liked them... although my hands don't sweat. If you do end up trying it and liking it, they come in different thicknesses and textures. The 3 cushion players know all the varieties available. But the one linked here is a good first one to try, just to see if you like how it feels.

The pro golfer Tom Kite, had the same problem. I heard he could easily go through half a dozen gloves in a round of golf.
I would think a linen wrap would be your best bet. It absorbs moisture well, and drys out overnight.

I know it may sound "odd", but I just did a quick Google search on the subject, and I found several suggestions for using "antiperspirant" on the palm of your hands...might be worth looking into a little more...

Wow thanks guys for the replies!

-i've tried using wrapless but my hands sweat ALOT pretty much anytime im awake, I do wear a glove for my bridge though. Im just worried about a non-wrapped cue absorbing my sweat and warping overtime. Do u guys think this would be an issue?

- I've used house cues before but I've held other cues such as the lucasi hyrbid, predator s, and various leather and linen wrapped cues. I really like the hybrid and predator because of the different grooves in the grip. But I wanted to know other peoples thoughts/ experiences on this topic, since none of my team members or anyone I know in the league i am in has excessive sweaty palms.

-the material on some golf clubs are really good for my hands, not sure what is, does anyone know? It really absorbs the moisture, and has a nice soft cushion feel that almost sinks in like memory foam. This might be my solution.

- i have used many types of medication for the hyperhidrosis on my hands, drysol was one but the effect wouldn't last very long

- the rosin ball sounds like a good idea, but i was wondering what kind of powder is in them? I've tried using baby powder but it doesnt on my hands very long, and is quite tedious to use between shots.

Thanks for the replies guys this has helped me out alot. Been looking to get a new cue since my other one was stolen, my car was broken into.

I think wrap-wise, cork is your best bet. But you have to like the feel of it.

Earl-style gloves are a close second imo.

If your hands really get as wet and sticky as you claim, I wouldn't go with anything that's real leather, elephant ear or otherwise.

No problem there. Cue butts are (usually) sealed with a clear coat finish of some kind. It's water proof.

Or another good, cost effective option seems to be the one given by "he"usedtoberich as quoted below...

Check out a bowlers pro shop. They have these bags that bowlers use to absorb hand moisture. It's almost like rosin but it's not. They do leave a slight residue of a very light powder on your hands but it won't show up on the table.

I have the same wrap and love it. It's grippy, without being at all sticky. Requires no maintenence and feels terrific. Super durable, too.

As good or better, grip-wise, is a wrapless cue. Having a towel handy is good advice.

Linen is the most absorbent wrap for sure, but it won't cure sweaty palms.

Properly finished, linen is not slippery at all in fact. I was surprised by all the "linen is Slippery comments" when I joined here. Then I realized why...it's how linen is being finished so often these days.

You can try antiperspirant. You can try rosin. You can try lightly powdering. You can try carrying an absorbant towel.

You can combine any of the above.

I may have found a solution to your problem.
Not only are they slip resistant, but are microbial resistant as well. Advantageous when shaking hands with an unfamiliar opponent.

I have same prob. I have an older plain jane mcdermott that has what is im guessing is a nylon wrap that is very well done and its been super grip for me for along time but my shaft is warped and the nylon has been getting a little sticky feel to it lately maybe need to clean it somehow idk.

but i been thinkin of gettin a cheap wrapless and trying it for awhile. I always thought my hand would get sweaty and slide on the varnish but i tried a house cue and it doesnt seem to slide, if it does im gonna take a green dishpad and rough it up where i grip tried that on a house cue and it worked real well no slide at all.

Tramp, he already said he used to have a cue with a linen wrap:grin: I agree with cork or wrapless.
