I have been playin pool since I could reach the table, but I am just now starting to take it a bit more seriously. Right now I have an Eliminator cue that my dad bought at a pawn shop for me when i was about 12. It is a full size cue but it is maroon with some pink and purple on it so I want to upgrade. I know want wood over graphite, but I'm not sure what one to get that would be the best for the money.

I honestly don't think that any one (Except maybe Travis Trotter ;) ) Is going to recomend you get a fiberglass wrapped shaft, as that is what Eliminators are.

If you can go without, and would like something that hits a little better I would try a Dominiak Custom Cue. They start out at 99 bucks, and I hear they hit a ton.

There's no question about it!

William Dominiak is knocking out custom cues at production prices! It's outrageous...$99 for a curly maple plain jane with your choice of black or brown phenolic joint/butt cap and whatever irish linen wrap you desire!

Good stuff. You seriously can't go wrong. And you can go ahead and make that Eliminator your break cue, if you'd like...or retire it all together. :)

I was lookin at www.billiardwarehouse.com and they have a simple mcdermett for 120, how would that cue compare to a dominiak?

Quick tip: pick one that you "think" you'll like. If you want the McDermott....go for it. It's a good brand name that'll stand by their products. You'll always find someone out there that'll say you shoulda bought the SL65 'Cedes over the M5 Bimmer....oops, not a good example in your price range. How about Civic vs. Sentra vs. Corolla vs. Jetta etc. etc. etc. Just pick one ya like, have fun with it, and get something else when either you can, or you want to :) But, since you asked....I'll throw in a suggestion; Lucasi (friend plays a L-ER, and it's a very nice playing stick). Whatever you pick, play a ton with it, and you'll play well with it.

I don't think you can find much that is as serviceable as a house cue for $100 if you're talking new equipment.

You might want to look around for something in a good used cue. The best possible situation to stumble across would be a person who is selling a solid 'player' because they want to step up to a 'vanity' cue.

wow! I never knew dominiak cues started out sooo cheap! IMO, this is the way to go. I've played with em' before, and they're good players...ESPECIALLY for $100!!!!!

Lucasi makes a very solid and attractive SP avail on ebay for around $110.
Consider a Dufferin if you can find a Canadian made one.

I would, but its more than an hour drive to a place that sells cues around here. shoot its 45 minutes to a pool hall

You can sometimes pull of an Audrick cue on Ebay for around $150 if the bidding goes your way...

I personally love the cue that I got from them, I cant speak for them in general and how every cue they make is, because I have heard bad things about them, but also good things, as if its a hit or miss sort of thing...

but my cue is beautifully made, and virtually flawless, cant expect any better for the price, in fact its probably worth more than I paid for it...

It's a GREAT custom cue for the $150 I spent either way....

The source I got it from has 100% feedback and only sells Audrick cues, so I assume they are pretty good with their work on everything they make...?

Well, I hope that helps, Im not trying to plug Audrick cues or anything, I dont know the maker personally or anything, Im just stating my experience with them...

McDermott

I recommend a Mc Dermott. Solid quality production cue, with an unbeatble warranty not to mention annual maintenance!!

The $100 Cure! (This one is not in KT's Book)

When you want a cue for under a hundred bucks, start cheap and customize it for yourself. That will really stretch your dollars. :)

I could be crazy here, but I think most Sneaky Petes (Players, or whatever plain wood designe you can find) is a great way to go, if you have to go for something under $100. You might also go for a used cue, again, this is just where you should start out.

Then take that shaft and get a cuemaker (preferred) or at least someone who knows what they are doing to condition it the way you want and get a quality tip from the brand and hardness you like best put on it. That should be close to $100. It should play great and it will feel special because of what you put into it!

I will say that Bill makes a really fine cue for the money. You can get a plain jane for $99 shipped, or you can move up and take that plain jane and make it "kandy curly". he takes an airbrush and colors the curly maple. you pick your wrap or wrapless and its color, the weight of the cue, the tip size, and either classic tan or black butt cap and joint. Bill signs the cue and the butt cap has his signature "D" logo. I just bought a Kandy Curly for $149 shipped, and it hit great. 3/8 x 10 pin, like a Mcdermott, but the shaft wood is so much better than a production cue. So good looking, somebody offered me $250 for it, and I sold it. But plan on getting another to replace it. This time a wrapless "kandy Curly" starburst. Try Bill Dominiak out, you can't go wrong. Especially for the money.
