Best Custom Sneaky?

What do you guys think is the best playing/looking/value-holding custom sneaky? I'm not rich and can't afford a fancy custom, but I think a sneaky would be a good place to start as far as customs go. Also if in the future I decided to let it go, I wouldn't mind if it held value better than a production cue.

I asked a couple of people I know and they said Tim Scruggs. I found that he isn't making them anymore, so that's not an option for me now. What do you guys think?

Good option would be the guy who used to make cues with Scruggs by the name of Bob Frey. Scruggs usually sends people to him if asked about sneaky petes. Some in stock at CuesNThings. Linky:

Even though Tim doesn't make them anymore his used Petes still have that hit players desire. I think it boils down to the shaft/tip combination you stick onto the house cue butt. My best playing Scruggs Pete has a butt made from an old Valley cue. I recently switched to playing with a Carmeli and liked it so much I ordered a Carmeli Pete from jazznpool on the forum. They're different hits but Carmeli does a bang up job with his finish and his shafts have the taper I'm looking for. I also own a Ted Harris jump/break Pete and it's as solid as they come. Crap.. my Dufferin hits good too....
 
Although it might not be considered a real sneaky pete, Keith Josey fancy sneakies play very well.
 
I really like the 19 ounce Dufferin that I bought from some pool hall years ago. Many players who've shot with it have offered to buy it from me and I always refuse their offer since I like its hit and playability so well.
 
Iknow the "hit" is subjective to each player but ill have to say ive had 50 or so sneaky-petes and the best playing i have had is my Richard Harris bacote sneaky pete ............I know they are not readily available but if you can get one ,get one !!!!!!!:D
 
Gilbert Jump Break

For a sneaky, the Gilbert jump break is neat little cue.

Andy sells em pretty cheap, and alot of people use them for a sneaky players cue.

I have one that I have used for a J/B for 8 years. Tons of offers to sell it, but I just cant pull the trigger. I paid $200 for it (new) from Joe Salazar so he was making money on it too.

I personally think the Tim Scruggs sneaky is WAY over priced. I hear ya about the hit and this and that, but damn, there are tons of cuemakers out there making some cues for the money on the Scruggs.

Mike Stacey, is getting a good reputation here in Indiana. I met him, and I tend to think his prices are on the low side, the the work I see him put out.

After some more thought on the subject,I've heard nothing but GOOD THINGS about Kikel sneaky petes out of Colorado,but I've never seen one in person....maybe Bob Johnson will weigh in.
 
Bob Frey or Al Romero

I second the motion for the Bob Frey Sneaky Pete. Not a true SP, though, in that it has joint collars and a synthetic white butt cap. I have heard that "Little Al" Romero, who works out of Hard Times in Bellflower, CA, also makes great SPs, but I haven't seen or played with one.
 
in all these sneaky petes reviews, what's the best joint to have on one or do you think wood to wood is the prefered way to go?

I like it better than any of the scruggs sneakys I've owned. The scruggs are going up in value, the dz probably will never be worth more than I paid for it new. But if you made me pick one to play with I'd take a dz.
 
Heard good things about Jerry Olivier SP's, and saw one for $300 on one of the cue dealer sites. I had a Joss SP that played real well if you want to settle for a production cue, but I think you're probably smart going after a custom, if you can buy it "right".

For sneaky petes in general, I've not found one that feels better than a Huebler.

Fred <~~~ loves them Huebler Sneaky Petes.
 
I have a Chris Nitti sneaky and it plays great. I believe you can still get into one directly from Chris for under $300
 
cant leave out bcm my god the figuring in the wood espcially his cocobolo is like nothing ive seen before in a sneaky pete
