I experimented with some different inexpensive cues from him and one that was more expensive, but not a ton of money compared to many custom cues, with one PTO and one regular maple shaft (different diameters, again, trying to see what I like).
His regular maple shafts on all the cues are straight, well made and seem fine to me, but I'm no cue expert. I don't know how "LD" the PTO maple shaft is, but I like it a lot.
I have a regular maple shaft custom made by Schmelke that I would put up against just about anybody's.
I had him use a "premium" blank and it is really white and has good straight grain. It is perfectly finished and is super smooth.
I had him use a 1/2" XTC ferrule on it and there isn't very much deflection that I've noticed.
The price is way less than what most cue makers will charge you and they have super customer service.
