Best place to live for pool

I will say this: check the tournaments forum and you'll see more events listed for Texas than any other state. Of course... texas is pretty big...

I spent 2 weeks there for work and got kicked out of a tournament I went to before I ever even hit a ball. The tournament was for 8's and under and someone claimed he saw me win a big tournament in CA. Hell I've never even been to CA:mad:
That's the problem with handicap tournaments and why I like to play even. Some guy thinks he knows who you are and they take his word over yours and you're out.

I play in a local weekly 9 ball league where it's a straight race to 9. The league captains know the players on the 3 man teams and they divided the players into AA, A, and B levels based on their skill and we match AA against AA and A against A etc. and we play a race to 9 and it's been the most fun for me since I started playing any kind of league pool.

I hate handicap tournaments because there's always someone trying to beat the system. Just play even and see who wins!

Seems to be a lot of action in the Eastern TN area. You have instant access to VA, KY and NC.
Ehhhhh..... not so much. I can usually get a little action around town but typically you do have to put a hundred miles or so in before you can match up with someone that will bet something or doesn't know you or want the nuts.(100 miles to Chattanooga, 150 to Greenville, 90 to Asheville)

If you play well enough... most of the time the weight doesn't matter. Maybe you should get better so that giving out a ball or a game to someone you'd play even is no big deal anyway. As for everyone playing even? Wow, talk about killing a tournament. I play at a place in PA where there are handicapped tournaments on Tuesdays and they substituted in a scratch tournament on the last tuesday of the month. Quickly, the particpation rate dropped more than 50%.

I can say from my own personal experience that I really miss living in Japan (Tokyo area). For one, the majority of all the pro players that play on one of the two pro tours they have there live in either the Tokyo or Osaka areas. So, almost any pool hall/club in those two cities will have a good house pro, not to mention all the Filippino players that live and play in Japan.
Also, pool halls in Japan are just that.................................pool halls. The greater majority of the people you find in them are either players, or aspiring players. (you don't have to deal with some drunk redneck that thinks he's the sh$t because he's got some graphite pool cue with flame decals on it, wants to play for $100 a game in 8 ball, and has never heard of the no-cushion foul or ball in hand.)
The table manners, the rates, the conditions of the equipment, and the exposure to higher level of play is really good in Japan. Mullyman could elaborate more on this, as he is still there.

Where is the best place to live for pool. I really don't mean for pro or short stop level players, just your little above average player who like small time gambling and tournaments.

Yeah they're famous for that. I played as an 8 in tournaments. One night I gambled even with the wrong 10, tortured him & they wanted to move me to a 10-1 or 11 cant remember the rating system out there. All this cause of one night gambling, which has nothing to do with their handicap system. Still a great place for action though!!!

Definitely Phoenix. There are about 60-70 weekly tournaments around for all skill levels. Monthly tournaments every month. And you can get some action at about 5 or so different pool halls on any given day. From $.25 a game (CocoCowboy) to $$$.

Actually stuckart you did not tell the story correctly, I do like to play for TWENTY FIVE CENTS A GAME, ONE BUCK A SET, or a Beer after play,

if the Weight is right. When I am down a Buck. The gambling is over.

Also I like tournament play, and as you said Phoenix has pleanty of tournaments. I personally like the tournamentswith entry FEEs that are under $15.00. PLUS one need not necessary GAMBLE to have fun playing Pool.
