Best place to play in Denver?

LightsOut

Looking for a good place to play in Denver on Saturday only, traveling in for work and have most of the afternoon/evening free. Looking for reasonably nice conditions, non-smoking room, open to small time action but not required to enjoy myself.

anyone have suggestions? Of course I can google but would love community opinion as well! Thanks in advance to any replies.

I vote for Felt over Mile High. More players at Felt plus the pockets on the 9-foot Diamonds at Mile High are too tight.

Felt in Englewood is a great room, good tables and food.
Plus I'm there at 10 AM every Saturday it doesn't get much better.
And table time before 4 PM is like $4 an hour I think.
Mile high is nice but the 9 foot diamonds have stupid tight pockets and table time is expensive.
If you go before 2 PM ask for Bruce at the desk ,they know me I'm a legend.

The Gaylord is a great big monster of a hotel.
Just be careful that's a somewhat sketchy part of town.

I’m going to be in Denver end of September. As of now it’s been 5-6 years since I hit a ball, but who knows that might change between now and then. I’ll carve out sometime to come play you some $6 1P. I can’t play for $5 anymore-sorry inflation.

Be fun, I haven’t played a rack of 1P in 5-6 years, but I didn’t forget how. ;)

All in good fun, will cost me $50 to ship my cue to play $6 pool. That makes sense

Best

I'm ready.

Let me know. My daughter is getting married in September but if the timing works out I will roll that way and rack for you and
“Bruce the legend”
Looks like end of Sept for me. I can come a day or 2 early or stay into the next week. Would be fun!

I don't believe it's been mentioned yet, but Piazza's in Aurora is a fairly new room, but has Diamond bar boxes, 9 footers, and they seem to be doing some cool things. They have a "Friday Night Fights" where they are having action/challenge matches fairly regularly with people playing for $500-$2K. They seem to be having some big tourneys as well, getting the bulk of the better players in the area to attend. Piazza's is also named after and ran by Tony Piazza, which is somewhat of a CO legend. I've only been in there a couple times, but seems like a nice place with decent Italian food, especially for a pool hall.

I went over to Felt today and met Bruce and his buddy. Did not play any though as they were already playing. The place is nice but seems hard to get on a table. Waiting list. I had lunch and watched them for a couple of hours and they graciously explained one pocket strategy to me. Jason, I assume that was you playing straight pool with Bob by the door as I heard you say you were from PA and were here on work. I am from Pittsburgh.

There was a tournament going on with a calcutta which looked pretty competitive. All in all a pleasant morning but the wait is a killer on a Sat morning. I would set something up in advance or go in a quieter time if I went again. A popular place on a weekend will get busy. They clearly are doing a lot right.

Yes, that was me on the table with Bob, He was playing straight pool and I was playing something more akin to one pocket based on my scoring innings! Seriously though, Bob is an excellent player and I would be unlikely to ever win without some sort of a spot, however I played about as bad as I can during that game...I did ask about Bruce but he was playing in another game and I ended up on Table 7 and just stayed there all day. After my '2 and stop' straight pool game with Bob I played with a few other people and it was a great afternoon - enjoyed it even more once I found a nicely balanced house cue with a good tip. Spent the rest of the day playing sets of 8ball, with Dave, with a guy traveling in town from Seattle named Richard and then with another really nice local player named Tony. Everyone was very welcoming and friendly - if and when I come back to Denver I would definitely return, It was really nice to be at Felt, thx for the suggestions everyone.

Are you still in town today? I am working but might finish before evening so I might be able to come back out, depending upon the location as I am way out near the airport at the Gaylord (already returned my rental car too)

Jason,

I am from Pittsburgh but live in the SW Denver area. I went to Felt to meet Bruce and watch him play 1P as I have not played it before. The last time I played league there it was called Table Steaks South. My car window was smashed out one night while parked in the overflow lot. Did not read the thread, it was more of a coincidence I was there. I just knew he went there on Saturday mornings. He and his friend are great guys and had fun watching and talking to them. I should have walked up to you. If you are looking for someone to meet up I may be able to depending on how late as I work early (5am). I am basically a league player and not a big gambler but may play some small stakes. Just getting back into pool after about a decade break. If you are interested in big tables and still want to play after work pm me. Regardless, try Piazza's as that is closer to the Gaylord. I have never been there before but it looks nice.
