Best playing cue under $2500

I'm quite surprised nobody has mentioned Mike Johnson of Jensen cues yet. For LESS than 2500 you can order a cue directly from Mike. He is well known for building a solid players cue.

Having thought about it a bit, id steer you towards a Southwest. They alway will retain value and are respected. I had one traded it and cash for a Bender but just because I am on the 2012 waiting list.

Anything that Jamie recommends.

I have a SW, Gina, Jensen, Schon (1985), Gilbert, Layani, Weston, both Skip and Perry, Lambros, CK, Bender, and RC3, plus had the chance to play with many other brands. Just caught the cue bug as most of us do. They are all mighty fine cues. Just kept searching. Jamie suggested a Kikel. Have been using that and have decided to give up the search. Am very happy with it. In the next few years I will probably get rid of my excess but will keep the Kikel. It is less than $2500. It is actually one of my cheaper cues, but not the cheapest. If I lined them up according to price it would be in the lower third.

You can select from a wide variety of cues for $2500. I've owned many different cues over the years and I think "best hitting cue" means different things to different people.

Out of the many cues i've owned the best hitting cue for me was a 4 point Paul Mottey hoppe style cue with a piloted ivory joint. I sold it and i've regretted letting it go many times. I didn't realize how well it played until it was gone.

I'd recommend a Paul Mottey or a James White cue with an ivory joint. I think they play as well as any cue you will find.

I don't know how any of the other custom cues play, but I have a Paul Allers and it is the best hitting cue I ever played with. My cue was a early model 1990's Joss before it was stolen and now I couldn't be any happier that it was. Paul does not have a website, but he has plenty of pics of some of his work if you search for Allers on this site. Now he is not in the upper price range like you are looking for and I don't believe he has a year waiting list. So, unless you are looking for that well named custom cue maker, it might be worth looking at his cues because maybe one day he will be a well named cue maker.
