best pool tabe cleaning method ?

I seem to get little particles on the table besides the chalk. not even sure where it is coming from. I always keep the table covered.

I purchased the simonis x1. works okay for chalk, not for any other particles.
I thought the quick clean and squeegee method would do the job.
I had posted earlier my problem with water spots using quick clean. Not very happy about that


I have avoided using a shop vac because I thought the suction was bad for the cloth.
hand held vac with rotating brushes seems aggressive.I have read some old posts on the subject
at this point I suppose i will try a handheld vac w//o rotating brushes.

so post what you are using and why.

Depending on how often I clean it, depends on what I do exactly. But here is the gist.

Brush the table

Lint roll the table

X1 the table

If I really want to finish off the cloth nicely, a microfiber cloth and a bucket of extremely hot water. Ring the rag out until its as dry as you can get it, then quickly wipe the surface of the cloth. I usually work in 1/4 table quadrants.

Finish up by wiping the top of the rails, and its good to go.
 
Vacuum lightly in one direction... Head to foot. ...careful which vac head is used. No bristles. wipe gently with damp cloth.
 
No Nylon Bristles

I recently purchased a vacuum brush attachment (actually got two to get free shipping). I bought them from Galaxy vacuum on Amazon. Unfortunately, they are out of stock so I can't post a link. 1 1/4 Inch hose size, 10 inches wide and soft horsehair bristles. There are a few places where the bristles are shorter. This is a key feature. It vents some vacuum so it doesn't pull the cloth and stretch it. Very important to make sure you do not use too much vacuum. I have an Aerus vacuum (formerly Electrolux) and I turn it down to medium, sometimes less if the bag is brand new. I always did the rails and cushions first, the along the short head rail, then from head to foot. Followed up with Quickclean. I find any spots fade with time from the spray. My new brush looks similar to this one, but was only $12.99 each, not $18.99. You can see the cutouts in front.

A small but strong suction shop vac with a 5"-6" brush attachment up and down the table in straight lines. Every couple months after the vacuuming, I wet down a towel, wring it out, then wipe down the entire table cloth aggressively, also in straight lines, but all in one direction only, doing it on the cushion rail tops as well. When the table dries in an hour or so, the cloth has more color and looks close to new. It actually may take a number of hours for the cloth to fully dry.
 
I also vacuum using the linen brush/roller attachment that came with my shark brand vacuum. Then I finish with the X1. Lastly, I use a damp rag to remove chalk dust from the rails.

Brush the table one direction
Vacuum the table one direction. I use a shop vac but leave a gap so as to not stretch the cloth
Spritz a quarter of table at a time with water in hair spray bottle, wipe down in one direction with microfiber cloth.
Works great.
 
I use a 1 hp mini Shop Vac with either an upholstery attachment or a soft bristle brush. Go from head to foot. I've used this since I got the table, about 17 years ago. Still has the same 860 Simonis even though it's been moved 3 times. I play on it every day.
 
handheld vacuum with rotating brush turned off. then wipe with wet microfiber cloth, don't care what direction, but thoroughly, that picks up a lot.

then use the other side of the cloth to do the rails and pockets.

i do this about once a week. cloth looks like new afterwards, and the rack sits tighter.

I forgot to ask
i do have a tiny black stain on one rail.
any ideas what to use to remove a small stain
 
About everything mentioned works, but two points are always left out.

Clean the pockets, and get underneath and clean the rails.

You can do it with wet paper towels, or you can do it with Windex or 409 on paper towels, or cloth. But clean those pockets and rails. That's where a lot of dirt and chalk collects, especially since a lot like to brush into the pockets.

Dirt gets into the pockets, dirt gets onto the rails. Dirt gets onto the balls. Balls get dirty.

You go into the water... Shark is in the water... You get the idea.

The third point left out is the pad in the ball return box. It needs vacuuming occasionally as well.
 
I followed the guide someone posted at the one pocket site about modding a Shark handheld vac to remove the rotating bristles. Suction is crazy strong and it's HEPA-rated. Once done, the front-to-back size of the suction area fits perfectly to run down my rails perpendicularly, too.

Following vacuuming I wipe with a damp cloth, though mine is a carom table. I don't recall seeing the damp cloth treatment as often on pool tables.
 
We have 4/8's 3/9's and a 10' snooker table at the Sun Lakes CC clubhouse. I watch and pick up old Dirt Devil's / small hand held vacuum cleaners with soft brush and powerfull vacuum and thats all. Never any furniture polish! ... all that stuff... sprinkle on and then vacuum up? Come on guys! Thats complete nonsense! ALL they want to do is SELL you something ! Randy

You could try wet dabbing with Woolite, but it depends on what the spot is made from. Obviously, you don't want to let it get too wet, near any wood, or rubber. Oxy-Clean is another option, but it may leave a ring. What ever you use, try it on a spare piece of cloth first.
 
I vacuum my GC about every 2-3 weeks. No rotating brushes, just a regular straight, wide shop vac attachment. I clean my pockets and ball box at the same time. A fresh set of balls will come out at this time and the set leaving the table goes in the polisher.

Directional Vacuuming?

There's a lot of emphasis in this thread on vacuuming in only one direction. Why does it matter on worsted cloth?
 
Don't forget the ball shelves

I never see anyone cleaning the shelves where the balls are placed for one pocket and between sessions.
